    Evening HAMBERS,

Wanting to do some minor custom bits to my 53 chev.

Are 54 headlights a clean swap?

Are 54 taillights a clean swap?

    Cheers guys.

  3. but why would you want to most people would think you put a 53 chevy grille on a 54 theres not enough difference between the 2 years i do understand changing the headlight bezels though

You wouldnt think that if you tried to put a 53 grille in a 54. fenders and inner fenders are different because the grill design. I know this because a guy wanted a molded 53 grill surround on his 54.

The only diff on 53 and 54 headlights is the trim bezel itself and they are interchangeable. They use the same attachment screw at the bottom and "clip in slot" at the top. I went the other way on my 54...put 53 bezels on it because I prefer the slimmer design over the 54's wide eyed look.

Same deal on the taillights, although it's the whole ***embly that you'll need to swap in the fender....not just the bezel.

PS: I have a very nice pair of 54 headlight bezels that I'm not using. PM me if interested, but shipping down under might be prohibitive.

I have 2 sets of trim rings one is about 1.5 inches wide ( front to back) and the others are about 2 inches wide, I run the wider ones, the wider ones maybe from a belair or from a 54, either way its a direct swap. I also like the 54 solid tail light (lee lens) compared to the stock 53.

Such a great help!! Thank you gents!!!

I eventually want 56 olds headlights and Packard taillights, but that is going to require some heavy funding. In the mean time, I want to do some subtle little and inexpensive changes :)

Ill pm the guys with the headlight bezels tonight!

    Now that's tempting.

Olds to chev isn't a clean swap by any means is it?

  11. no it isnt you need to add metal above the headlight to match with the 56 bezels and most peak the fenders to matche the peak on the bezels

I'd gladly swap you my '54 rings for your '53's if shipping was so much and if your 53 rings were stainless so I could french them onto my 54. I like the 53 rings for their relative simplicity.

Nice car. Those are definitely '54 headlight rings in the straight on photo.

If the other set don't have the little scallops on the inside diameter next to the light then they are 1953, I believe.
