I have the impression after reading some posts that perhaps a 32/36 weber is too little carb for a 235 and a weber 38 is too much unless there is a lot of time spent jetting it properly or i have the cash for the mods that we all want. any advise would be very welcomed. I would like to make the right choice with money being the limiting factor.thanks milt
I did some trying out for a couple of years ago, and well, on a 216 Mopar flathead the 32/36 was functional good, but on a 235 Cheva we got just a big flat spot in midrange before the second "port" opened. Whatever we did, we couldnt get this away to be comfortable enough. And of course,on this spot, the power/torque was nearly gone...It also get out of power long before the bigger 38. The 38 was quite straight, used some more gas, mainly because its easy to do too much "pedalpushing"....but no hesitation. On my own 250 Cheva, i used an 2bbl Rochester 2G,straight from a 305 V8. Great function,no hesitation,etc... but some adjustment to find on float height,accel.pump,...Trouble was its very easy to get troubles...leaks, dirty jets, troublesome accpump. But with this, i got mpg as low as with the original 1 bbl carb! So advice..... if cheap, find a good 2G!
I ran a small base 2GC for years with a fabricated adapter to the stock manifold. Drivability was great, as was the mileage. The stock manifold was restrictive to high RPM. But great for general driving.
