Sorry its been so long but here's a big March update.
I now have the body on the chassis and she's a roller. The sub rail kit is in, the cross supports/floor just need to be button'd up. I ended up going with some pie cuts in the wheel wells in order to get the body over the frame and gain a clear shot for the rails over the frame.
Now I am trying to figure out how I can get away from using a new rear roll pan in order to have the deck lid latch function like it did from the factory. (non rumble) What are you model A coupe guys doing? Do I have to run that roll pan piece? My old one was junk so a new one would be in order.
A buddy let me borrow his Original '32 shell the other night for a quick mock up peek.
I had another friend hold it in place as I snapped a few shots. I think a non chopped shell can fly with the height of the '31 cowl. Just barely. Im open to what you guys think. Not going to be running a hood.
The 59A is done! She's pumped up to 276 cubes, fully balanced and ported/relieved.
Those are a set of Wieand cheaters to keep everything from looking "over the top".
It was built by United Engines down in Wichita. Very old school flathead guys that are great to deal with!
The 39 trans has been all cleaned up and is ready for assembly, and I'm about a week away from beginning on the brakes, steering, and suspension rebuilds.
Once I figure this deck lid latch issue out the body will come off and were on the home stretch to sandblasting/painting the chassis. All black of course.
After that were running wires. 6 Volt (call me crazy) But were doin this to the period or were not doing it at all.
Heres some pictures of the progress.
Love to hear what you guys think!
    Cheers!

Forgot to mention that the chop is in order in the near future too. But that is an entirely new topic on its own. Were all new cats over here when it comes to that. Deciding exactly where the reliefs and pies need to made is a debated discussion. Any of you experienced guys wanna pop over to Kansas and show us the ropes? We have beers....

5 inches is the magic number right now.

I love how this one is coming along. You think you'll still get it up and driving before the LSRU? Think you can pull the chop off before? I'd love to see this thing in Austin.

Sad to hear you lost interest in the banger build. BUT its still bitchin!!!!

One question... Are you using your student loan money to buy 32 parts?? :) :) :)

when I was in school I didnt have enough money to even buy one stromberg core.

  6. Better to use it for hotrod parts, rather than gambling, video games, and booze like all the guys I went to school with, did. :p

  7. Another build I have to follow now!
    Cool car man.
    I'll keep watching

  8. Ttt any updates on this awesome build???

Maybe if you weren't so busy driving the Berardini Brothers 404 roadster, you would be finished with this thing by now..

Well after a year or so I figured I better update all of my progress.
Because this is my first build there has been a lot of bumps on the road but everything is finally getting close to where I wanted this 48-49 era build to be.
I will let the pictures do most of the talking but heres the basic run down.

'31 Coupe Body 5inch chop 1940 Ford Mandarin Maroon
Original Henry '32 frame right down to the rivets.
    46-48 59 block, 276, L100, Weiand Equipment.
    39 Trans, 32 Rear, 32 front assembly & steering, 48 brakes, 35 wires.
40 Wheel, 36 Dash full of early crescent SW, cloth wiring, 6V.

That’s the major progress up to this point. Its going to be a very heavy next 8 weeks or so before the first of April.
The room is booked at the Embassy Suites on S Congress.
    LSRU or Bust.

Very tasty. I just read the whole thing and it sure reminded me of my '29 av8 build when I was 16 back in 1959. Did the whole v8 swap in my grandfather's farm shed after we finished chores in the evening. The engine came out of the '47 Ford school bus I rode to school the first day of 1st grade. 54 years ago...........damn, it is true, "time flies when your having fun":)
