How good are the stock 392 Hemi distributors?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by no6, Feb 10, 2013.

  1. I have a dual point stock dizzy for a 392, how good are they for a mild Hemi motor, 5 speed?

JMO Take all the points out, put in a pertronix, close hood and enjoy.

I just built two last week. They are the best you can get, take them apart clean out all the crud, polish the parts with wire brush and lube the advance weights etc.
Work very well with the contacts set up and PERTRONIXS makes a module kit etc .
Finish with some black paint a coat of clear and you have the best distributor you could purchase.

Another note these old automates have a adjustable advance curve by bending the springs tabs making adjustment very easy once on the tester......

Back in the 50's these Mopars did not want to start in damp weather. The cure was to drill 2 holes (about 1/4 or 3/8) in the bottom of the housing. A little air circulation cured the problem.
