I decided to go back to my old hometown, hang out and shoot this weekend. Lots of fun. My first KC show since '91 and the first one I was ever at where I didn't work the show, so I had plenty of time to catch up with old friends...some things never change. Interesting show.

As usual, Jack walker put together a great Custom exhibit.

    Really digging this Hardtop wagon.

You can always count on Sonny Rogers to show an outrageous car. You really outdid yourself this time, man. He created this blown pickup from a sedan, many cuts.

  9. Thyanks Tom. Sonny's little pick-up is cool. of course that is Sonny in the picture along with an old hometown boy, Monty McPherson talking to him. Monty used to have a little roadster that he showed with Ray Farner. His car was the Orange Blossum Special. Those were the good old days.
    Thanks again for sharing.
    Later,

I would have loved to Doug, but I had to leave the show at 1 yesterday for my flight back. Even worse, I did not see your booth at all and I thought I covered the show pretty well.

You know, I had a booth painting T-shirts at every KC show from 1961 through 1991. I couldn't walk ten feet in this show without running into someone I knew from back then, so I guess I was distracted a little from being able to cover every aisle. It was great, being able to hang out and share stories with all. I was never able to spend enough time talking to my friends at the shows back in the day because I was always busy working from open to close.

Thanx for the cool pix. Love the shot of the 49 Caddy fastback in stock configuration with the modified green Buick of a very similar body to show the contrast. Cowtown Speed Shop display is awesome, great work bro, not an easy task. Missed the event this year and am so thrilled to attend via your lens. ~sololobo~

Thanks, man. Yeah, those two GM fastbacks made for a great juxtaposition/comparison for sure. That black Caddy was blocked and finished like gl***, hard to show how perfect it was in a mere photo.

Sonny is the man. We've been friends for over 50 years.
He's a larger than life character akin to a Grabowski. He had a Grabowski knob on the truck that Norm gave him. He's built every imaginable style of rods and customs. I'd love to do a retrospective of his work if he has photos.

Now, if we could just figure out a way to get Sonny onto that there newfangled internet deal.

I arrived at the show Thursday for move-in. I immediately ran into Sonny and he took me over to show me the truck. We were able to stage it against the plain wall for shots before he moved it into place in the middle of the hall.
