Upholstery guys, hidden fasteners?

I have a '53 Chevy wagon that I'm trying to get on the road this year. Eventually, I'd like to wood grain the outside, but for now I'd like to build some wooden door panels for the interior. Are there any upholstery clips that would work for this without showing on the face, or should I just neatly attach them with those chrome upholstery screws?

 

Velcro would be one option

yes.There are many clips available for attaching door panels without them showing from the front...AU-VE-CO is the mfg...find yourself a good auto uphol supply and they should have them...the chrome screws just look like an after thought in my opinion

 

Do you have a photo of a fastener that you can use on the back of wooden door panel and it not show?

I take it he doesn't intend to cover the wood. HRP

 

Do a search for magnetic fasteners. They are usually two pieces. I think a company called magdaddy makes them.

If you are not covering the wood Velcro or magnet.Still might need a couple of screws to keep it solid.Covering it will provide many options.

 

depending on how thick the material is, couldn't you cut a slot in the back side and use modern type 'Christmas tree' plastic retainers like current cars use?

 

You will probably destroy the panels when removing them in the future but many small dabs of windshield urethane might work depending on the humidity in your area, because that would make your panels expand and contract, the reason door panels work well is that they allow a panel to do this but of course they would show.

You can counter sink the screws then plug them with wood plugs sand them smooth but you will not be able to take off door panel easily.

 

FYI: I just came across them a few weeks ago and went through a bit trying to figure out how to get something... basically call the 800 # and ask for a distributor in your area and try to connect with them. The catalog/download is a great source for diagrams of the parts and some cross referencing of part #'s when your trying to match something up, but you need someone else to order it for you.

 

How about Phillips screws with the washer ring around them that shows on the outside. You will see the screw but if chrome screws and washers .
