I'm relocating my battery from the floor and I'm looking for some good suggestions on alternatives. I'm thinking of putting it in the fender behind the wheel. Thank you for any feedback.
Just leave it where it's at. Behind the wheel is a much worse place for it - both in terms of exposure to the elements as well as damage from road debris.
What is your motivation for the move? IMO the stock location is optimal...hidden in a space that is secure from theft and out of the way.
It is but over the years I've had electrical issues of many kinds and since I'm rebuilding the truck completely this time I'd like to make it more user friendly, haha. My original plan was to put it in a bed box I was using befor but I don't want to be committed to it if I change my mind. As the project progressed, I filled the space for the battery with other things.
I built a 54 for my boss. He wanted dual side mount fuel tanks, so battery was relocated to the area behind the right front wheel. gell cell turnd on its side. Made a nice aluminum cover for it. Worked fine.
Mechanickieth is right. IF you must locate it there, build a box for it. The area of location is ideal, as it shortens the distance to the starter via the cable.
I looked at putting it behind the seat but there's only 7inches and I'm not sure there's enough room. I was planning on building a box if I put it behind the wheel.
The gas tank isn't inside the cab on a '55 F-100. It's underneath on the left side outside the frame. There's nothing behind the seat except the gas tank filler going through.. I left the battery in the stock location on my '53. Many got moved to under the hood years ago and mine was there when I got. While it is a bit of a pain to access it, I like it better in the stock location. The cables aren't that much longer than any other car.
My 55 was stock in that respect yes, but the space behind the seat will be the same when the gas tank is removed from a 56.
i have seen where they cut a hole in the inner fender behind the radiator support on the right side and weld a box in . i think that is the way iam going with mine
Unfortunately the battery tray was completely rotted out. I've seen them on eBay for around thirty bucks.
