Hello, looking to buy decent heads for a SBC 350. Im working on a tight budget. The motor innards are fairly stock. The cam is the #2102 Edelbrock Performer Cam. Just looking to build a nice cruising motor, but have power if needed. Thanks:cool:<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

  2. DAMN! That is a good deal. I was going to say.... you can't find a set of sbc heads to redo? you should be able to trip over them they are so common .....but I doubt you could get a valve job for less then $300 bucks.....

  3. I know it is $309.00 each, didn't say it wasn't. if you don't have a set of good heads to start with, you can easily spend that much buying cores, putting in all new valves, guides and seats and you've still got used heads that you might not know the history of.
Now I know a bunch of Cooters are going to jump in and tell how they bought some great Corvette Camel Humps for $100, or their cousins uncles sister gave them some, but the reality is that is a pretty good deal for brand new out of the box heads, and the OP was asking where to buy heads.

The best deal on iron heads is used Vortec heads...You can get the pair new assembled for something like $5-600 if you shop around, or, even better, go to a junkyard and pull the off a '96-00 Chevy truck, van, etc. They flow better than the old "camel hump" 2.02" heads and are way less expensive. I ran them on a 370-ish hp 355 and they are fantastic. The only caveats to them is that they are limited on valve lift with an aftermarket cam unless modified, and they need vortec-specific intake manifolds. But, for my money, the pros far outweigh the cons for these great heads.

I do have a set of 350 heads. I know the motor ran when it was pulled about 2 years ago. Found that the cylinders were full of rust and some water. So i dont know exact condition of the heads. I also just got off the phone with a local who can rebuild my set for 250-400. Is this reasonable for a head refurbish

  7. yes that is reasonable.

Used heads are everywhere. check your local classifieds. I'll bet there is some one in your area with a cracked block trying to re-coup there losses.

It depends on what you want. I have a set of SBC heads that I can sell you for 150.00, ready to bolt on, but you would have to pay shipping.

Be patient and watch your local classifieds. There should be a bunch of good ones out there....

Well i found a local shop that works on an exchange program. I give them my old worn out set and they give me a new refurbished set for 375. Think this is what im going to do. Thanks for the tips and options tho.

  13. Procomp in Ontario, Ca. The last set of heads I bought from them was less than $630.00. I have ran about 6 sets on these on healthy street motors with no problems..

Why don't you do it the "traditional" way?.....I would think with all the traditional guys on this board , they would have came up with the most obvious place , try a JUNKYARD!!!!! , tight budgets + low bucks + adventure + having a good time on a treasure hunt = JUNKYARD !!!! :D

  16. Don't forget the shipping cost :( on those $ 309.00 each heads. Shipping should set you back 60 to 80 dollars (or maybe more depending on where you live).

Not at all, this is Summit we're talking about. There's a $13 "delivery and handling" charge, and ground shipping is completely free.
