  1. OK guys, I've got a dilemma on my hands. I haven't had as much free time as I thought up until now so progress has been verrrry slow on the '40 Panel. In the downtime I have been toying with the idea of selling the main panel truck body and getting a pickup cab and bed insted. I have ALWAYS wanted a '40 pickup and years ago this panel just fell into my lap, so that's what I've started with. I already have all of the chassis stuff and the drivetrain. I have a sweet hood and front fenders that would all work with a pickup. The panel is gool, but the pickup is what I really want. I can find a cab and they make the beds new. The panel pody is pretty straight with not much rust. A pickup would be a lot less sheetmetal to sand, but my title that matches the frame says 1940 Ford Van. What would you guys do if it were yours?

  2. I vote panel but you have to satisfy yourself not me.

You answered your own question when you said a pickup is what you really want. Its about what you really want isnt it. Make yourself happy.

  8. I would be happy with the panel. I have a cool plan for it, just always wanted a pickup.

Yup. The frame is the same as pickup and car, just a little heavier gauge steel for the panel.

I vote for the panel, but it is your project. Or, build the pickup and sell the panel body to me.

Voted panel. Do a panel you will like it. I have both. The panel, a Courier, gets the most use.

  19. I'm thinking of filling the tire well in to make it look cleaner.

  20. My Brother has a very rough 40 panel...if you decide to sell the panel PM me as he may be interested! Panel or PU you can't go wrong...40's are bitchin!!

  21. I'm go against the grain here,,

I really like the panel trucks but you said you really want a pickup so don't build the panel truck to appease us,,you have to be happy and from past experience from building a hot rod that my heart really wasn't in it is easy to loose focus.

Sell the panel and build your dream. HRP

My buddy has a '47 Chevy sedan delivery. He never takes it on the freeway or drives any distance. 1 - He says it get s too hot inside without A/C. 2 - It has a terrible blind spot and he's afraid of hitting another car during lane changes.

Sounds to me like the panel will be easy to sell, sell it to get you a huge jump start on building what you really want, the pickup.

Like someone else said, if you're really not into building something, it is easy to get side tracked and it might never get done. Staying focused on a major project is hard enough if its something you really like, near impossible with something you don't like.

Sell the panel, build the truck. Gene

Agree, you said you really wanted a pickup. You will have a ton of time either direction you choose. After all the blood sweat tears cash and favors why not end up with exactly what floats your boat.
    Make yourself happy!!
