Hi everyone! Brand new here and I'm hoping you can help me. I'm thinking about getting a 62 unibody but since I know absolutely nothing about engines, transmissions, distributors, carbs, well, you get the idea... I need your input. The following is the description:
'1962 Ford F100 Unibody shortbed custom, new windshield and rubber, has a rebuilt 1968 Oldsmobile 455 big block speed boat engine dressed with a new edelbrock carb, holly intake,HEI distributor, msd wires, rebuilt one wire alternator, custom headers with dual flowmaster exhaust, new turbo 400 transmission,9" rear.
The truck has been lowered in the front by flipping the axel and notching the frame and reinforced frame and the rear spring perches were relocated in the rear, new tires on custom red wheels, nice interior, all lights work including blinkers, heater and wipers also work ,good brakes and new master cylinder, this truck runs well.
Is there anything there that should make me want to run and hide or is this worth considering. I'm looking for a daily driver which doesn't need work to enjoy. Any opinions are appreciated. Thanks!

Got a pic the motor is most likely a Hardin Marine 455 out of an old jet boat.

He's asking $3500. So 'flipping the axel and notching the frame' is OK? He's also behind about $700 in registration so I guess it would be $4200 once that got sorted out. What do you think?

    Bump.

Anybody else with thoughts about this?

  7. Make him get the registration updated and then give him 4200 when he is done.

I cannot see the truck but the price seems fair enough. Flipping the axle is nothing to worry about if it is done well. If it is not done right it is going to get redone before you are done.

I had a '62 unibody, loved it. They are neat trucks.

How is that possible? Or do I really want to know and be pissed off the rest of the day.

No idea. Something about 'previous owner'. I'm not even sure I could drive it back home legally. I've got a call into DMV (AAA).

    Bump one last time.

I think he doesn't want to deal with the DMV in order to straighten out the reg. He's moving and has a lot going on. Having said that, I'm concerned about buying, going to the DMV only to be told that it's a salvage or something like that.
I'm new to this whole thing.

Thanks for all the help! If he doesn't deal with the registration I'll move on.

Flipping and notching is Fine ~ IF and it's a Big IF, it has been done RIGHT. I would want to see close ups of that before p***ing judgement.

As for the $700.00 , it could be as simple as him having not paid the registration for the past few years and now there is fees and penalties. IF it is in his name and just a year or two out, no big deal. Just pay the amount.
I believe if you are a triple A member, you can take a copy of the registration to their office and they can estimate the fees for you. Just ask him for a copy of the registration even if it isn't current. If he won't give it to you, P*** on it

It never ceases to amaze me that people would rather let their Ca reg expire and get penalized hundreds of dollars rather than spend $20 to get it non-op'ed. Truck is worth the money if the registration details are worked out.
