Hey all, I've been designing a sequential turn signal for the port holes of my 1955 buick special. Wanted to see what you guys thought about this mod? Thanks Steve
Yes I can,but as strange as it might seem,,,some threads after being shot down come back even stronger,,not necessarily this one but,,,,,,,HRP
I just brought home a 55 buick special that has lights in the portholes, looks like they were put there decades ago, few of them are missing the lenses. I havent powered up the car yet to see what turns them on but I was suprised to see them, must of been the thing to do at the time.
OT 67 cougar's had the boards for the tail lights to operate sequentially. They now make them in a module the size of a deck of cards. A buddy of mine and I just retro fitted his OE system and worked well. You could easily adapt that system to 3 port holes on each front fender after supplying the lights etc.
i have to admit the first time i saw sequential turn signals i was impressed; i'm pretty sure it was a 67 cougar. Sometimes ford does have a better idea (but usually not). Now, about your idea; My only concern is that the portholes will be too far back to have an effect as a turn signal if you know what i'm trying to get at? Otherwise, if you have your regular turn signals go for it.
doable, but why? Having turn signals that far back seems kinda....well you know....dumb. maybe you should make a nice custom front light that you could have multi bulbs in and have that be sequentially active. The location would be better.
I'd like pics or video....not of the light but of your avatar!!! Good lookin group of gals there!!! CHEERS!!!
I think it would be more cool to shoot sparks out of the portholes, like when you are grinding some steel... shoot them out about 10 feet in different directions. yeah, that would be cool alright.
Back around 1953 a stylist at Buick rigged his personal Buick with neon bulbs in the portholes, wired to the spark plugs. They flashed in sequence with the plugs. I can see doing something like that on a Buick if lights under the rocker panels and flame thrower exhausts aren't subtle enough for you.
Scanned an article from Cars & Parts magazine a few years ago telling how to replace the troublesome mechanical relays that were used in the Cougar and T-Birds of that era, with a module that does the sequencing. If anyone wants a copy of the pdf or individual jpgs, PM me. Gatz
New trucks have them in the door mirrors, that's even farther back. So the people along side you know what you are about to do.
This..........^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ever try to merge to another lane with some Jamoke alongside, running the same speed as you.....helps to let him know you'd like his cooperation... Ray
to me.. well that's a kind of different situation. With turn signals in the mirrors people coming toward you can see them so they know your intentions. If they are in the side and folks can't see them from the front,.. I agree with the other poster, I don't see a practical use for it Just my opinion
Agree with Hnstray and BJR. All of the texting drivers out there need all the warning we can give. I've also seen a low wattage glow from those ports on the running lamp circuit, looked nice. For sequencing I bought this kit after recognizing my lack of electronic building skills. Easy, works perfect, great support: http://www.webelectricproducts.com/products.htm
Why lights?? Ventiports would make excellant machine gun portals! Who needs glorified blinkers when you can just remove the threat?
yep exhaust with flame throwers shooting right out the port holes. I am putting little tivoli lights [rope lights] around the seat base in my jeep, and maybe some neons under it.
Yep, cool as a cu***ber. Actually I would like to see it, a gimic for sure but it may be neat to see. When I was in high school some of the fellas would remove the hood sprars from their '57 chevies and put lights in there.
Why not go whole hog and plumb in a popcorn machine. You'd be very welcomed at drive-in movies and Christmas parades! But seriously folks... wiring in lights that worked off you spark plugs is THE way to go. If you have a Super you'll need two more ventiports or a six cylinder.
BTW Speedway Motors also has this kit for LED sequentials.... http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Sequential-LED-Taillight-Kit,54987.html
