I need help i'm working on a 1948 Chevy Fleetline my question is i want to remove the shocks from the top of the a arms and put the shocks in a different area does anyone know what a arms i can use to replace the ones that are on there the problem i'm having is that the shocks and a arms are connected together and to the spindals any ideas
If I remember right you just drain the fluid out of the shock to make it useless and then fab up some tube shocks off the side of the stock lower arm. You have to be very careful on the placement so that the tire doesn't rub on it. Turn the tire lock to lock to find out where to put it. That's the way it used to be done.
The hot tip is to just drain and fill the 48's old stock lever shocks with 80/90 gear oil.......Why would you change the A arms????if you are asking how they come off- they are held on the crossbars with steel bushings that are threaded with a co**** thread which rotates on said shafts[metal to metal].
J.C. Whitney sold a tube shock conversion back in the day. It had a bracket that clamped to the lower control arm just to the out side of the sway bar link. The upper bracket bolted into the same holes in the frame that the bumper brackets bolted to. Used 49-52(?) Plymouth shocks. Saw one on a car once, it would be easy to duplicate.
This is what I did with a 48 Olds front suspension. But I wanted to upgrade to 4 piston calipers and disc brakes.
