Figured I'd say hello after a month of signing up. H.A.M.B ... Never understood the name until I was told. Excellent name. Various times I've searched the Internet for random car information and google almost always pointed me in the direction of a thread started here. Reading things on here is almost like therapy for me. I know that sounds a little weird stating that right off the bat but hear me out. I've attended Lone Star Round Up every year since they've been hosted at the expo center down here on the outskirts of town. H.A.M.B tags on firewalls were something I always just overlooked. Always seen them just never questioned them. Then the article that changed everything. Jalopy Jounal was recommended to me on twitter. Started "following" them. Sometimes I read what was posted sometimes I didn't. One day last month "Ryan" posted an article titled "GUILT". Wow that gentleman has talent putting words down. If you haven't read it yet, do it. He said everything I was feeling. I even did just as he did in the article. My father passed away from a heart attack at the age of 62 on the morning of 10-28-12. The previous day he attended a car show in his hometown of Victoria Tx. He entered two of his vehicles into the show and took home two first place trophys that night. His pride and joy a hand built 32 black roadster and a 49 chevy Coe towing his custom black chopper. Although I wasn't there that night a national magazine was and they put him in their current issue on newsstands this month. There was a last ride performed by alot of local hot rodders after the funeral following the hurst. Hopefully when I pass, I'll hopefully earned the respect of that. It's something I'll never forget. I'm infected with the hot rod bug and this place is an excellent outlet. The future may have me building my own model a just like my father did. This place is going to be an invaluable resource of insperation, knowledge, and community for me. Hope to run into someone with the same interests down the road. Allen from South Austin.
Allen, welcome from Kansas City! The firewall tags you speak of can be found under the red [The Alliance] tab at the top of this screen. A very worthy investment to keep the site up and running (servers and bandwidth aren't free). Plus Ryan will send you the firewall plaque with becoming an Alliance Member. A lot of great information here, more than any magazine could ever deliver.
Welcome Allen from the west coast of Florida. Sorry to hear about your dad he sounds like a very interesting person and a real car lover. It never easy when you lose you dad. I lost mine when I was 14 years old. You always have the wonderful memories. Best of luck Jimbo
Thank you for the information. The Alliance, I like it. I've got my very own fire wall tag in the mail headed my way. The information on this site is overwhelming. I've been on my phone for hours at a time. Jimbo, I'm 29 an lucky to have many many memories of my father and I. It's an incredible adjustment for me but time helps and I've got plenty of it. I can't compare it to 14 yrs old. It's almost unthinkable how I'd develop without the influence of my father from the age of 14. Makes me one of the lucky ones. I appreciate your support Good ol' South Austin. Been here since the age of 3. Probably never leave. I've never lived north of the river, west of mopac, or east of I-35. Stevie ray Vaughn is the best guitarist and nobody can convince me otherwise.
