I just bought a nice old original '30 Model A. I haven't cranked it yet but read where the 6 volt battery is supposed to be positive ground. It isn't hooked up like that though, it's neg. ground. does this make a difference. Has the privious owner got it backwards? Getting ready to crank the old gal.
It supposidly was cranking and running like this. Is it better to change it back to pos. ground. Where in ms. are you? I'm near Corinth.
If the battery is hooked up with a neg. ground, will it affect the cranking? A pos. ground is new to me.
I guess I'm just trying to determine if it was meant to be neg. ground for some change that was made or was hooked up wrong.
Check how your coil is hooked up. If the + goes to distributer its positve ground. If - to dizzy than negative ground.
It's definitely supposed to be pos ground. Just not hooked up that way. Just bought it and trying to get it going.
He beat me to it. Yes it is supposed to be wired + ground with the 6V but the PO may have changed it all over to - ground in the past.
turn the head lights on and see which way the ammeter moves, if it goes to positive you are hooked up wrong.
Ford 6 volt systems were pos. ground, thru the 1955 model year. For 56, Ford joined the 12 volt, neg ground world. Happy Roddin' 4TTRUK
Jack, sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, left after I responded. I am in P*** Christian, right on the Gulf.
