so, i am rebuilding my carburetor (again) and this time around, i have no shop to use the parts cleaner in. this is fine, except i can't find bulk carb cleaner ANYWHERE - only the chintzy aerosol cans that have like ten ounces in them and are no good for dipping anyway. so, does anyone know where i can get about a gallon of carb cleaner, or, failing that, a decent subs***ute for it? i have found laquer thinner and acetone all over the place - will this work, or does it leave a residue? oh, the carb is an edelbrock performer, aluminum body. thanks!

Yotta be able to get Chemtool in 1 and 5 gallon sizes, even in LALA land. If you got NAPA stores out there, give 'em a shot.

If you can't find anything else, miniral spirits and a toothbrush works well, and leaves no residue.

I bought a 5 gallon can of McKays carb cleaner at a NAPA shop 6 months ago. That store (Huntington Beach, CA) still stocks it. There's actually only 3 gallons of solvent inside.

    Regards, Mark
