Fellers, I'm selling parts off my Model a coupe I don't need. Would someone (who doesn't need them) LOL help me arrive at a fair price. Of course, I need all I can get. The engine has been fully rebuilt, bored .020, new crank, all bearings rebabbitted and machined, new valves, hardened seats, and springs. Runs great with very little running time. I have a complete build sheet with receipts. New clutch, PP, and throwout bearing. Trans shifts smooth. Also selling the rear end, hub to hub. Probably gonna use the buggy spring. Somebody please give me some advice on what to ask. HAMBers get first chance. Jackie
I would say you are in about the 1500.00 - 2000.00 range. Rear ends are not worth that much but the engine could be worth more depending on what was done. What do the receipts show?
olskool34, I have receipts from Piranio's Antique Automotive for $1502.00 for dis***embly, inspection, vatting and magnafluxing, install hard seats, new valves and valve job, rebabbit mains and align bore, and new guides. Waterpump is new, had starter rebuilt yesterday for 90.00. New clutch, PP, and throwout bearing. I have more receipts I haven't gone through to see.
That is really low for a fresh rebuild engine. I paid 350 last year for an original running engine that could have used a rebuild.
Who rebuilt the engine and what did they do would have a major impact on the price. What is the condition of the rear end and what is the ratio? Charlie Stephens
Actually, good Model A rearends are getting harder to find according to some of the Restorers I've talked to. I sold a complete one this summer for $150.
Motor should be $1200-$1500 or so by itself if it's legit. Bangers are expensive to rebuild and if someone was wanting one that runs and is reliable, that would be a good deal for them. That's ***uming you have reciepts and it is as you described.
I posted a thread similar to this and it was deleted for "heavy spam vibe". You may be better off posting this under cl***ifieds.
The engine was rebuilt by Piranio's Antique Automotive in Celina, Texas. I have the company invoice. Waterpump came from Snyder's Antique Auto Parts in New Springfield, Ohio.
I would guess that your not married..........Since you save receipts for your car parts........This might be a dumb question, but if you have all the receipts, then why are you asking what something is worth? It's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
Do you have a sensible question in there somewhere? Yes I'm married, I'm 64, my oldest son is 42 and my youngest daughter is 5, I have three other daughters in between. All teenagers, and my wife is in med school. What's that got to do with receipts? for what it's worth, the receipts were kept by the prievious owner, who by the way, wasn't married. Nuff said!
Well, then you know how much it is worth. Not sure why your wasting space on the HAMB with a 'What is it worth?' post.
used parts are half price in my area call it $800 i buy rear axles for $50 or less because they are usually destroyed on the inside. it costs us about $600 to rebuild one with new parts and bearings my .02 tk
Why are you looking for an arguement so badly? Can't take a tiny jab? For the most part the responses in this thread have been helpful. One comment about reciepts and you go sideways-get over it. And for what it's worth, his response of being worth what someone is willing to pay is the truth. There is a lot of variance in values, especially on banger stuff because it's such a specific group of people that it appeals to.
Ok, sorry.......I will go back to the shop.....I'm just not a fan of the 'What is it worth' posts and then I see HAMB'rs flipping stuff that they got a good deal on in the cl***ifieds. I wish that this was the 'old HAMB' and the "at***ude" for the new guys would still be there, but...........Just use Epay or CL as your friend or go to a swapmeet to see what your stuff is worth.
Oh yea, from your receipts........I would say price it at $1900 & be willing to have some wiggle room for people to price you down. And if you have confidence in your builder, put it in writing that you guarantee that everything on the receipts are true and that the motor is a genuine 'rebuilt' motor.
Now, Sodbuster, it wasn't all that hard was it? You gave me a good answer and it's appreciated. I got good advice. Shooter54, I never look for an argument. And I never take jabs, tiny or otherwise, without immediate response. I don't jab others and require the same of them.
If you think jabs are fun, maybe I'm not the one who needs to change something. We're wasting space here. Let's be friends
Give an honest story to your buyer, show all the relevant reciepts, sell it cheap ($1500+), and guarentee nothing.
