    I nees some help from the experts - I put a new seal in the other day but was obviosly wrong as the yoke ripped it out - I need some help with these part numbers or if you've got a different source or part number let me know. is for 49 ford 4 door

    Rockauto shows two kinds but I think they are wrong (I seem to think my rear end is a ****er 23):

    #1 - BCA/NATIONAL Part # 5778 {Oil Seal / Acrylates / Shaft Size=1.552" Housing Bore=3.16" Outer Diameter=3.165" Width=0.53"}
    Rear Axle; Outer; ****er 41 8.5" R.G $11

    #2 - BCA/NATIONAL Part # 5778V {Oil Seal / Fluoroelastomers / Shaft Size=1.552" Housing Bore=3.16" Outer Diameter=3.165" Width=0.645"}
    Rear Axle; Outer; Viton®; ****er 41 8.5" R.G. $25

    Obsolete Auto Parts shows:

    #1 - DRIVING PINION OIL SEAL ***Y (1 5/8" ID - 3" OD)
    1949 56 FORD (EXC. S/D & S/W)
    Ref#: 8A-4676 $8

    does your rear axle have a cover that unbolts off the rear? or does it have a center section that drops out the front?

    it unbolts to the inside (driveshaft side) - I'm looking at ordering one found through MACs but an looking for a part number that my local parts store could look up and source - I'd like to reduce all shipping and duties to Canada if possible (I always end up spending like $40 for a $10 part)

    You have a Ford rearend, not a ****er/Dana.

    That last part you listed in your first post is probably the right one.

    thanks - so rockauto.com is wrong - looks like I'll be ordering online from MACs - I'll stock-up on some other stuff to make shipping worthwhile

    The one that rockauto lists is the same one listed in my old National catalog, it does fit the wagons, since they do use the Dana rear.
