i have determined that an 11" astrovan clutch disk will work on my 62, 3/4 ton, 235six, T5 trans conversion IF i have a 168 tooth flywheel. since it's a 3/4 ton truck it probably has a 168 toother but i need to know for sure... what's the easiest way to determine the size if my flywheel?
All 12 volt 235/261 flywheels are 168 tooth. The tooth count has nothing to do with clutch size in this case. If you take the inspection cover off and find that the pressure plate bolts are really close to the edge, with maybe 1/8" of material left, then it should be an 11". Otherwise take it apart and find out...
The six volt 235 and 216 flywheels have 139 teeth and are easy to identify because the teeth are bigger than the 12 volt 168 teeth.
Ok , I had a 139 tooth flywheel, 6 volt, I found a 168 tooth flywheel and had a 139 tooth ringgear pressed on. Now the 6 volt starter wont engage and the outside diameter of the new flywheel is 3/16 in larger than the old 6 volt 139 tooth wheel. Did I just get a bad ring gear or do I need to go back to 168 tooth and 12 volt starter? I was attempting to keep old foot starter
We can't see what you did, so we can't really say if you did what you think you did, or that it was done correctly. Ok? '53-54 3/4 ton or larger trucks had a larger clutch in the 6 volt era. If you want to go with a 6 volt starter, then this is the flywheel to look for. 12 volt is like I said in the other post...
