    Howdy all,
Can anyone clue me into a good rust remover for an old set of chrome reverse? Then,a good chrome polish?
I've heard that WD-40 and aluminum foil might take the cornmeal rust off?(Well,it's not that bad...but rusty).
    Thanks!

Some real muscle and a bunch of gritty wire-brush wheels on your drill or air tool.

One time I took a complete front axle and spindles down to metal in the course of two solid full days of man-handling it and breathing in the old toxic dust.

I use Ford Custom Metal Bright P/N ZC-15 and if its sorta heavy rust I use a small screw driver with it and lightly scrape the rust then reapply the ZC-15 works awesome for me.

Use a product called Flitz. Speedway Motors has it. It works great for all kinds of metals. I even had great success using it to remove overspray from my carbon fiber. It probably won't to heavy rust though. Expensive but worth it.

Thanks everybody! I appreciate all the responses and will get to work against the "demon rust!"
The wheels are sentimental and have been in the family a long time. You know how that is?

I bought a 62 Corvette with the factory chrome wire wheels for 800.00 (that will tell you how long ago it was) I used Navel Jelly and an artist oil paint brush (short stiff bristles) to get into the back spokes and center hub. I was amazed at how well it worked. Don't rush it. Let it work. Then the fine steel wool if you can get to it with your hands.

  17. I've used much of the above, also "guncotton" for finer polishing afterwards. It's chemically treated cotton or fiber. Eagleone sells it as well as others. FWIW

Eagle One makes a fleece polish called Never Dull that works great. I've used it on lots of chrome wheels with great results....

I am really surprised that some of you "old timers" haven't suggested by far the best rust cleaner. Go to the kitchen and steal one of your wife's brillo soap pads. Soak it good and you will out perform every other suggestion on here. Try it, you'll see what I mean. Just be sure to keep it wet and it cleans, not scratch.

Also there's a product called No. 7 Auto Polish it works good.
For rough jobs I've used an SoS pad and follow it up with mother's polish.
