Im looking to replace the clapped out stock springs on my 52 Styline. I've found a kit TCI sells but it only offers a 2" drop. Are there any other options out there ? I know Jamco makes some up to a 4" drop but I'm not even gonna try messing with them. I've heard Posies does also but I can't find any info on them. I'm running a stock rear end and I want drop/lowered leafs not original replacements. I'd prefer to buy some in stock rather than having some custom made. I'm trying to get this handled before our trip to the Round up in April. Looking for any recomendations, dealers, experiences good or bad... Thanks fellas
Here's the address for Posies: www.posiesrodsandcustoms.com They are great to deal with and usually ship the parts within a couple of days after you order. alex
I ran Chassis Engineering springs and 2" blocks in my 50 with no complaints. 52Hardtop on here is running Possies and he likes them. Nothing wrong with lowreing blocks in the rear.
Tugmaster, were you running a stock rear end with the CE springs ? All I saw was a kit for an open drive swap. I looked at Posies catalog, did not see anything for a 52 either. I'm running 3" blocks and pulled a couple springs out of the pack so it sits pretty nice. I'm just looking for a little better setup. Planning on a small notch and maybe some work on the tunnel.
I have CE 2" dropped springs and 4"s of blocks on mine but it is a malibu axle. What would be the differance if it was open or stock they mount the same don't they?
I did a open driveline and ran a S-10 4X4 rear. Something to remember, on the stock springs the pin in the bottom of the spring is offset a bit. I dont know if anyone makes a dropped spring for the stock rear setup. Not saying that a decent spring shop couldn't do it Todd
Posies makes them part# 203 in the online catalog -someone posted the link above -they are good springs -i have them in one of my cars ( open drive ones) but the have them for the stock rear as well -went right in no prob-they are the stock width -good people to deal with .
I kind of wish I went Posies and not messed with the CE stuff. Not real happy with how low my car "doesn't sit" with their dropped springs.
Alright found the Posie's finally, had to download some stuff to be able to view the currrent online catalogue but still cant see the price list. I'll call them in the morning, thanks for all the help. I like the stance I've got now, a little lower would be great. its the ride quality that Im trying to improve here. These cars come from the factory lookin like a damn 4X4.
Since I don't know where "standing in the shadows and pissing in the punch bowl" is, I can't recommend any place.
Stepped lower control arms, cut a coil up front. Back is 3" blocks and a couple leaves pulled out of the pack. No notch, no tunnel but it will definitely get a pipe notch when I put the new springs in. We'll just see if it needs tunnel work after that. In that pic it's on the bumpstops have to add air to the shocks or its a rough ride. With a notch I should ride at that height more comfortably.
Everybody knows that's code for Texas... jeez where you been I'm pretty sure the post office can find it.
Geeez! Doesn't anyone use local talent any more? Just open a phone book and look up "springs". I like using local spring guys, if they have been in business any amount of years, they know what they are doing (especially the truck spring guys). They can custom build you a set of leafs. De-arched, reversed eyes, that's what you want to get a lower stance. If that doesn't work, you can always use lowering blocks to dial in the drop. I've used 3 or 4 locals, depending on where i lived at the time, and ALL were decent people, knowledgable, and fairly inexpensive, very helpful! Usually, I at least change out the main leaf, have it de-arched, with reverse eyes, and it works out very well. The usually can supply longer U bolts for the springs and blocks, as well. One guy was even equiped to build me a custom set of coils for the front end of my 70 GS Buick. because the springs were no longer made. Less money that the Moog catalog, too! He could build coils with 1,2 or 4 in. drops, too.
Can you give me some information on how you pulled leaves out and which ones you pulled? I have a new set of stock springs I am going to use with 3" blocks but probably need to pull a couple leaves too. how did it effect the ride? I drive on a lot of country roads here. Thanks,
We're a posies dealer , you want a posie super slide spring with a 3" drop with stock pin location Thanxs Alex
I always prefer to keep my money local, I make it a point to support small and independent businesses. That said in this matter I'd prefer to deal with something made and tested specifically for my car. I don't trust that to the local yokels over here...sorry. I can de arch an reverse the eyes myself no problem for free, I've gone that route and now I'm wanting new springs all together. The old ones have served they're purpose but are just worn out ready to go in the parts pile. Thanks for your input, I get were your coming from. .
I think I started at the bottom and pulled every other one, 2 total if I remember right. I would de arch or reverse the eyes on them before I'd pull some out. I just did it knowing I was going to get some new ones. I wanted a quick fix, it rides ok on the freeway but those country roads and potholes rattle pretty good. The air shocks help alot and like I said at this hieght it really needs a notch.
I used a Walton Fabrication leaf spring set up. got a 3" drop and then added another 3" block to it. (using different rearend in mine
Posies makes them part# 203 in the online catalog -someone posted the link above -they are good springs -i have them on my 50 chevy for about 12 years no problems.
When you pulled the leaves out what did you do about u-bolts? Mine are at the end of their threads aready (with all the leaves in) and my local spring shop want $100 to bend me up some shorter ones
