Wow. That writer sure is impressed by right hand steering cars. Guess he's never been out of the states. And if that's his reason for saying it "breaks the mold", he's got some researching to do.

Otherwise, a nice car that's been over done.

Another outstanding example of craftsmanship from Troy Ladd. Anybody that says the only thing unique about this car is the right hand drive, needs gl***es.

I really dont even see any "brooklands" styling cues there. Didnt even use brooklands screens. And wheres the Rudge Whitworth wheels? A Brooklands themed '32 could be an interesting concept, but this sure as hell aint it. Nice car, but WTF is he talking about?? Seriously.

I pretty much like anything that HHR puts out in one form or another. This car is nice exercise in juxtaposing two subjects. While it might seem a little over the top and ostentatious at first, it's really no more then the Brookland racers themselves. I think he hit the mark.

Now you change out that grill and frame horn deflector as well back tail pan and you have yourself a pretty honest hot rod. Some people build period cars and some people push the boundaries and the hobby all together. Troy knows what's up.

Is it a nice car? Yes. Is there even a TRACE of a Brooklands connection. No. Maybe some photos of the real thing are in order. For those that dont know anything about Brooklands, let me point out the small, folding, individual windshields, known as "Brooklands" windscreens, the large, squarish mufflers, known as "Brooklands cans" and the notable lack of a 'rubber rake" on any of these cars. Its not just a cool buzzword to throw around, like "g***er" for instance, there is an actual place in motor racing history known as brooklands, and a historical context. And he is ******* all over that historical context. REGARDLESS of whether it s a "nice car" or not, and i think it is. Now, if someone wants to build a '32 and incorporate some of these styling cues, I'd be all over that. But just simply calling it a "brooklands '32" because the steering wheel is on the wrong side? Sorry, no I think not.

Gotta "love" this quote..."Troy’s mantra is ‘Respect Tradition’. Not satirize, plagiarize or *******ize: only respect." See below.

I think its *****in! The kind of stuff I expect from HHR! I really dig the Bugatti accents on the front end, and those tail lights are *****in!

this car makes about as much sense as putting a deuce grille shell on a bugatti...

    that car is sweet.
im seeing brooklands connections: wire wheels, wheelwell arch matching, receded grille shell, and the front valance panel,
but i know what you mean about the ***le stamp of 'brooklands' not really being appropriate, but it is a Ford, not a Bugatti!
and the inspiration came from that (brooklands), i believe.

That '32 was in the main building as you walked in, at the LARS last year, and it sure got a lot of attention.

Personally I like it, the car has a myriad of changes but doesn't loos it's obvious roots and no one will mistake it for anything else. As far as the style I'd just say it favors the great coach built sporting cars of the early 30's with a hot rod flair.

I know one thing, If it was mine I'd drive the wheels off it and grin like a Chessie cat.

Later I will post a pic of one of my favorite '32 based cars from the early '50's that really DOES at least tip its hat to a brooklands look. Thats my only beef with this car. Is it nice? Yes. Is it a well crafted car? Yes. Do I look at it and think "Brooklands"? HELL NO. And I grew up knowing Brooklands cues when I saw them. Some screen mesh, and a right-hand dash do not make it a "Brooklands Special" in my books. Its bad enough what has been done to the word "G***er", I dont want to see the balance of motorsports history used for toilet paper. next someone will paint a '32 silver with black and red pinstriping and call it the "Manx Norton '32". Calling this car the "Brooklands Special" makes about as much sense as painting a Ford PU black and sticking Harley Davidson logos all over it. Sorry, but to me at least, my motorsports heritage means something. Considering what this forum is supposed to stand for, you would think history would carry a little more wieght on here.

falcongeorge, take a chill pill. I understand that you don't get the connection but then I saw your avatar and it became clear. As for tradition, when I looked the cars you own, well, what can I say. When you can come even close to the quality of Hollywood Hotrods, I will reconsider. One more thing, it's 'i' before 'e' except after 'c'.

I like the car a lot, some really cool details there, but I am sick and tired of every damn car being built having some stupid name.

As an aside, it says the tail lights are also from a Bugatti. Does anybody know which one? The reason I ask is that I have a pair of the same tail lights. They are Trailer lights made in Belgium!
    Cheers,

I like it, cept for that Chris Craft wood on the ****. And the notch in the brake pedal is very, dare I say, amateur for such a high end car / builder. Gary

Funny, the wooden deck lid is the thing I like the least about the car, but I do feel that it should have a wooden firewall.

The cars of the style they were shooting for typically have hand formed bodies and wooden firewalls.

Just another "theme-kit-car" from HHR, I can't see a single original 32 Ford part on the car. I don't care for it.....looks like a goldchainers dream.
