About the late 1955 or early 1956 My Dad and I went to the Long Beach Lions Drag strip. On that day this FED was announced to have just set a National Track record of 150+ mph. In the picture on the left is Mickey Thompson who was the track flagman, the others I don't remember their Identities. Please forgive the condition of the photo as it is an old polaroid Can anyone remember the name of the driver, dragster, people in the photo or just any info. Thank You
I cant get the pic to expand so I cant see the details of the car. but it looks like the Cook and Bedwell digger, drivin by Emery Cook. 1957 ran 9.28 at 166.97. Finally got the pic to expand....nope not the C and B digger.
Greezy You could be right. I suffer from CRS I think the FED or Driver had a Polish name and the speed was just over 150mph. But like I said my memory is out to lunch sometimes. Thanks for the info
I was looking through some of my archives, and ran across Romeo Palamides digger. The body work is slightly different as is the paint scheme. But the headers sure do look the same. I was trying to make out the script on the side of the cowl. The driver in your pic bares a close resemblance. The article I have is from November 1956. Long shot I know but hey its fun trying to figure this out.
Nose is different, Headers are different, cowl shape is different, steering wheel is different, injection is different, Rear axle and hairpins are different, roll bar is well you get the idea ....
1956 Ernie Hashim set the world speed record at 153.91 in Bako...are you sure you were at Lions. Well you did say you were having CRS....
Yes I can recall while standing at the starting your eyes would burn. You would start coughing. And it did not make a difference it was street stock cars or the big boys, they all ran some kind voodo fuel mix
Thank You Mazooma. Is there a web site re: Ed Losinski? Was my memory out to lunch or did he set some kind of speed record? Again Thank You
I think that is the Duncan & Losinski car. It did go 151.57 in 1955 at The Beach. Ed also owned this roadster that ran out of Chrisman's shop and I think he is a member of the 200 MPH club at Bonneville. And I believe he is still around.
Check this out. This is the car after my great grandpa Harry Duncan bought it from Ed. The car was on the cover of Hot Rod Magazine August 1955 I have photos too Ill post sometime if there is interest.
Yes Ed Losinski is a member of the 200 MPH club. I raced 1/4 midgets with his son "little" Ed. I remember him wearing a jacket with 200MPH club on it. There were very few members then. Little ed is in the back in this race at corona 1958.
