In my long search to find a HAMB friendly car, I stumbled upon this: http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/cto/3590370961.html I know that if the car was a two door or was a vert, then it would already have been sold, because I know they are desirable, but what about the four doors? Is the price in line? How hard are parts to get? I am not afraid of rust repair at all, but an interior resto scares the **** out of me. Also, how hard are mechanical parts to find? Obviously the car does not run and drive. Any insight or help is appreciated. Thanks!
The price is a starting point and the car looks fairly complete The flat top (sport sedan) is a cool look. No post! 4 door bubble top. I'd go flash a couple grand at him and crawl around to see what you're working with.
$4940 is way too much for a 4 door in that poor condition. $2000 is top money unless the interior is shot, then its $1200 - $1500 cause you'll never find a good interior for decent money. Save your money for a 2 door as you never be able to recoup any money you spend on a 4 door.
^^^^what he said, and given the floor issues I think that estimate is stong. I hate to say this, but it's worth more parted out than as a whole.

'59s are in a league of their own, the above examples aren't really comparable. The flat-tops are somewhat popular as far as four doors go, the price isn't a good deal, but it's not crazy either. There's really no such thing as a cheap '59 Cadillac. You're either going to pay big bucks for a real clean one (even nice driver 4 doors bring good money) or you'll have to spend big bucks to fix up a half ***ed one. This one has good chrome and (looks like) good gl*** but floors and interior plus a full mechanical redo is going to be pretty pricey. If you can afford to do that, you're probably better off looking for a decent driver in the 10K range.
I've restored 2 of these boats and it's not fun, a lot of work and a million nuts and bolts. I'd p*** on this one.
Id take the 60 or the 56 coupes in the links, all day long over the 4 door. On any old caddy when it comes to the interior, make sure everything thing is there and in good shape or you'll be spending lots of money and time fixing things...
The car pictured would make a nice $1500 parts car. If the exterior is any indication, the interior is toast. Big $$$ to bring that back to life. I'd be inclined to spend my money on something nicer to start with. Bob
Definitely a very cool car but not worth that much. You really need to be crawling all over it before you can determine what it's really worth.
If ur just looking for a HAMB Friendly car? There is lots of other choices. The 59 cad IS one of the coolest. But you get what you pay for. Do a few google search's for parts. They are out there but expensive.
I did a little looking and saw how expensive the interior would be to do, let alone if the engine is seized, I would be totally over my head. Honestly, if I got a caddy, it would be a 1956
What are you looking for exactly? I know hamb friendly. You need to go south and west of dfw. There are still tons of cars. And most can be had for a good price. Just go for a drive.
Well it would be a stretch for me to come up with the money, I don't particularly care for 4 doors, it doesn't run and it is a big old boat. I Liiiike it. I mean I relly like it, cleaned up and painted it would be a fun car to cruise. If you are up to the task and have the scratch and like it why not offer him 45 and see if you can drag it home. Of course liking it is really important.
I saw one earlier on evilBay for $7500 and in far better shape, still a project though. Something a ton nicer to start with. I personally like the '63-'64 Caddys bettter. Bob
I'm going to disagree with the majority here. I've owned a 59 Fleetwood for 25 years. The 59s fall into 2 categories, love them or hate them. Regardless, they can bring stupid money. Parts are available for the engine and interior. I just redid the engine in my 59, bore 40 over, standard brgs, balance crank, stainless steel valves, etc. My cost was $2100. I spent another $700 on rubber parts- underhood seals, weatherstripping etc. I can't tell the total condition of the car from just 2 pics, but knock the price down a few bills and I think it is a good deal. If nothing else, you can part it out for probably twice that price. BTW, chevy floor pans will work with slight mods. Curly
If I was looking for a cool old ride to haul the family around in and I wanted a four door for convenience Id take a flat top Caddy any day.
