Here's another model I built many years ago, using the Monogram '30 coupe as the basis. ( I haven't built serious plastic for a number of years now, got to get back into it). It is a model of a friend's actual hot rod.
I have seen on the net a company who is doing a 1/18 diecast 30/31 coupe. Want to get myself one of these and do a model of the plastic model show, from the diecast. Geoff aka whodaky

That looks nicer than most peoples real cars.

  3. Nice
I was thinking about making a cabriolet out of the next '31 kit I come across. Did anyone know that AMT just re-issued the 1st edition '32 5-window coupe? Not the iffy American Grafitti one, but the ones you used to buy in the early '60s (probably minus the cool decals though). Just ordered myself a pair:D

Hey Dean, Monogram did actually do a cabriolet (stocker, as was the coupe). The model I have shown above is done as a sport coupe and was done using a coupe body.
The issue of the AMt 5 window deuce I bought recently ( the one with the big diameter wheels and looks terrible on the box! These wheels will work on 1/18th diecast I reckon). This coupe is based om the MPC 5 window, which was used in the American Graffiti model (actually the whole model is the MPC full fender model). In my view the this body is far superior than the AMT body. Just my 2 cents worth!

I was thinking of getting that model but the wheels kind of steered me away from it. I bought the 57 corvette g***er instead. Is the rest of the model out of proportion or is it only the wheels?

  6. No not the big wheeled MPC Graffiti one! The ones they used to make in the early '60s. Go to recent relases at www.modelexpress.net.

  7. Actually I think I bought the place out.......so no need to check there. look into it though, its a different kit.

AMT is bringin back the old MPC kits. some of them havent seen the light of day in like 30 years. i recently picked up the barris t buggy which has some pretty cool parts. whats cool is AMT hasnt messed with the box art or anything. even the MPC logo is still on the box. they are also bringing back the trike kits too, like Roth's mailbox trike. just my 2 cents.

Knuckledragger, the whole kit in that issue is the full fendered MPC kit (none of the AMT stuff) . Personally the body is the best part of this kit. To do a full fendered model using this body I take a different approach. I'll explain next week with a mockup.

Hotrod28AR, I wasn't trying to be an ***. I didn't know that the original AMt issue had been re released, thanks for the heads up. I will keep a lookout. Although I do have a few of the AMT kits!

NealinCA, eeeeeeek, now I feel real guilty. I have got side tracked as usual. I should make it a priority. We'll see!

Capt Cal I will keep a look out for those kits.

  11. Finally found some time to work on models again! The 'T roadster is powered by a tripple carbed Chevy straight six. I need to make up a nice gas tank for that one though. The '32 is pretty much done, just needs some carb scoops and the '29 is a early kit I bought off ebay. Pulled the blown Hemi and put in a blown Merc Flathead, deuce radiator shell, exhaust and straightened out a few other things.

The T is looking good, but it's that chopped sedan that really grabs me.

    I ordered my from here.

Hobby Lobby has that AMT kit with the MPC 32 Ford body.
Every once and a while they will have a sale that is 1/3 off.
And like twice a year, thay have a sale where all plastic kits are 1/2 off.
By the way, it's not this week.
Great work with the models this week guys!
Dean, is that Model T from the last reissue from AMT?
    Thanks, Mike.

That Hobby Lobby 1/2 off sale applies to all plastic models....yup, even the Big Deuce! It's awesome. Last time I went in for one Revell '32 3-window, and came out with at least 6 kits, and a Big Deuce all for less than $75!

Awesome stuff as usual from everyone! Here's mine for the week....slowly but surely, it's getting there.

I cut the windsheild and posts from the dash, glued the dash to the body. Most of the bodywork is wrapped up, got her all in primer. I also sectioned the seat, it stuck up way to far out of the ****pit.

  17. Yup, that 'T is from the AMT kit (Ala Kart body). Just sanded off the '29ish looking cowl moldings. Fidgiter-how did you get that belly pan look on that roadster?

  18. Just a heads up...

Since this is the Sunday model post, Welly is making a "retro rod" version of it's 1/18 '41 Chevy convt. and '36 Ford roadster die-casts, so far I've only seen them on ebay.

Used a highly modified Revell '32 frame, glued some sheet styrene to the bottom, ground off the siderail details and rounded the bottom edge. It's only a partial pan. In the rear, I rounded off the bottom off of another '29 roadster body, cut it off, and glued it to the bottom of this one. Then filled up the fenderwells with more styrene.

Here's a small preview of things to come...

Might have to chop it or something though...

  21. I'd say some (scale) seven foot tall hillborn injection stacks would also look right at home:D

  22. Hey Fidgiter, That A roadster is awesome! Where do you get the sheet styrene from? Also what bodyfiller do you use? I have been using auto body filler and can't touch it for 2 days.
    Cheers

Nice models. I have been wanting to put something together.

  24. I agree!
If you can't find it whwre you get your model cars, try the local railway modeler's store. They usually have it in varying thicknsses, white or clear. If you can't find it in Sydney, lemme know and I'll bring some up next time I'm headed your way.

I use a couple of different brands but Tamiya makes the one I like best. Again your local model shop should stock it.

I managed to pick up a few of those model A kits that geoff mentioned, just got lucky as they seem to be rare as rocking horse poop. Started a car that should be familliar to many here. The pic was taken last week and it now has a small rolled pan on the back, '50 Pontiack tailamps and a nice coat of hot rod red primer. The steelies and wide whites from one of the Revell model A kits will be perfect painted red with '48 caps and rings and it'll have most of the underpinings from the revell deuce coupe kit with '40 drum brakes up front. Under the hood I'll probably make a concession to accuracy by running three deuces instead f the real DRD car's four barrel.

  25. Hi gang, yeah, I'm still alive and kicking.

Been busy but still find time to do a model or paint some twisted lines on stuff.

Here's an AMT '34 coupe I just finished. Was built from the 'stocker' kit using a few bits from the '56 vicky, '40 ford and other kits.

I'll add some model car tech for the week. I can post a pic of the finished product if anyone cares. I wanted moon discs, so I got appropriatly sized freeze plugs from the parts store, there is a freeze plug sized for just about anything (I even thought of aircleaners made from them, polished up).

I super glued them to a bolt head. Put the bolt in the drill press and held some emery cloth to it while it's spinning. finish up with about 120 grit and it looks good. Put the bolt in the vice and pop the moon disk off with a screwdriver. works nice
