OK I'm a dork. I admit it. Get over it. This isn't one. It's my interpretation of one done on a Civil Defense WWII helmet. It appears that Bluto has bought all the authentic ones available. I love Grimloks "hot dog pot" I'm soooo very jealous of that lid!! I'll keep on using mine as a port-a-potty. Even if you don't have the stones to actually wear one while in your hot rod, let's see what you got. Any cool old racing goggles? How about old club jackets? There has to be plenty of you guys with gas station garb from the 50's. (there was a spectator at the Jalopy round up wearing a very cool classic blue and white pinstripe ESSO coveralls that he found only a month earlier. I certainly understand if you are no longer capable of wearing these items. There were some skinny pin headed sumbitches back then. Be sure to include any known history of anything you've got. I know a few of you have costumes for cruising. Got anything cool to share?
honestly, im not cool enough to own stuff like that, but i wish i were. but, i gotta get in on some of this dirt track hot rod mud fest stuff that i keep seeing posted on here. that looks like a friggin riot! trey
No! A crash helmet goes on yer head.... the skirt is what yer trying to get the chick to remove......
Id say a vintage helmet is more like a vintage condom. It might be cool as a conversation piece, but won't give you a gram of protection!
I still have my Tony Nancy English glove leather face mask with aircraft goggles. Bought it 42 years ago.
hey tommy you know your in the new car kulture delux,, it looks like ya lost it a little , and ya had a kid rideing with ya , but you can see your hamb plaque on your front spreader
i wana be like tommy! so i bought one like his then i got some aviator goggles then i found this other helmet supposidly french WWI?? im not sure...but im going to cut the rear lip off of it and put a leather liner in it and letter it up...i thought the fin was cool on it zach
I got an English 1950's motorcycle helmet on ebay. I was the only bidder and got it for 40 bucks. The cloth and shell is in good shape, the leather is "distressed" and missing the strap. The inside is quite funky with old sweat and oil. It must have been too big for the wearer as there was a newspaper folded up and wrapped around the inside. It's the "Daily Mirror" from September 6, 1961. Complete with political cartoon.
Tommy, Thanks for starting this thread. I went out to the garage to get this hard hat I painted up after a rainy Hershey in the late 1970's. It was up on the top shelf, on top of two wheel adaptors that i've been looking for for about 6 weeks now. I'll be back with the only historical racing helmet I have as soon as I find the photos that go with it. Bet Bulto is scratching his Cromwell wondering what it is going to be.
Two young brothers were playing with a stick, the younger brother drops it down an abandonded mine shaft, the other goes down after it, a thud is heard. The boys yells to his brother with no reply. Adults are summoned, and two climb down. More thuds. Rescuers are called, they go down with breathing apparatus and pull everyone out. The mine was filled with natural gas that suffocated them. The men recovered, the boy didn't.
Yeah thanks. I bought a life time supply. A split second later! That's Chris my buddy Mike's son. He wanted to get muddy. Go figure. So did I. I didn't lose it...it was premeditated. I headed straight for the longest puddle out there. This is the first time I drove without the windshield and the first time the goggles were actually usefull. I didn't do it right somehow. I was really hoping to get the raccoon look when I took off the goggles... I just looked dirty. There is a guy I see at the Cow Town NJ. show that wears an authentic So. Cal hot rod club jacket. He's a big guy too. Did they even make XL back then? Every one I've ever seen was small. I'm sure he paid big bucks for it but it sure is cool! I see some cool stuff at Hershey but it's way out of my league and usually too small for my bucket head. You young guys like to joan on the old women with their saddle shoes and poodle skirts at the shows. Which I find a little amusing when I see all the young girls dressed up in their finest WWII regalia. I'm not complaining. I dig high heels and fish net stockings too...on young girls!!! Fortunately for those around me, I've never had the desire to wear a poodle skirt. Racer5C I bet you've got some cool stuff stashed away. Non of you guys that raced in the 60's have anything left from back in the day? I know it seems like yesterday to us but lots of these guys would like to see it. At least I think so.
Tommy ....... I've worn most of those helmets racing.....or maybe partyn' Goggles? Yup! How about the counter display box? ...
My grandpa's helmet. It's lined with cork. A local bar owner gave him that sign cause he said it looked like him.
Tommy where are those pics? I'd say the Dorsey track but its been gone for years. Is it one o them horse tracks down south county?
At a restored dirt race track complete with museum just north of Gettysburg, Pa. right off of rte 15. I don't remember what they call it. If you know about Dorsey you can't be too far away. The museum is worth the trip but The Jalopy Showdown, put on by Scarylarry in May, is a can't miss event. (where all these pictures were taken) There will be plenty of coverage on the HAMB in the spring. No excuse to miss it. here's a recap
Here's mine, I'm just "dying" to wear it. The real deal. It's kinda big on my mellon so it's resigned to garage art until I get big head. Some would say I already have. We all need goals!
I've got a real SCTA Qualifiers jacket, some WWII goggles, and a few of the "puddle bowl" helmets- I'm a geek too!
Tommy, it's the Latimore Valley Fairgrounds. The museum is Eastern Museum of Motor Racing, well worth the trip. It covers mostly dirt and Indy racing but has some drag racing stuff too. Tommy, wear your helmet at Hershey so I can find you.
Finally got around to taking a photo, so I'll dredge this post back up... The 2 lids in the foreground belonged to friend of my dad and I think they date from about early '50s (TopTex, with Snoopy) and late '40s (Cromwell), I believe. The checkered flag graphic on the second one is hand painted. The Bell in the background is my dad's. He bought it in 1956. The sticker on the side is from the St. Catharines Motor Club... my father has membership number 001, and the club is still going.
i have a niceish everoak racemaster pudding basin that i'm thinking of parting with for something cool,i also have a nice re-pop pudding for trade too............Marq
