Does anyone know who makes/sells the right blue for a '67 Ford Mustang 289? I picked up a bunch of cans of Ford engine blue from the various manufacturers, but really don't know which is correct? Any help? REALLY appreciated ! ! Thanks, TC
I would try c&g g early ford in California . They have their paint custom mixed from original ford paint chip catalogs
There are at least two different Ford Blue's for the engine. Early ones were a light blue and later ones were a darker version, more like what is used in the Ford Emblems.
I've been trying to find this out for '66-up T-bird restorers. Here's a few numbers for Ford Corporate Blue, which includes being used on the Engine, Valve Covers, and Air Cleaner: 1966 All Engines Ditzler Enamel#: DQE-13358 DupliColor #: De 1621 (Old Ford Blue) Ford #: EP-2075 (Reconditioning Engine Blue), EN-2075 Everyone seems to struggle to find the "right" shade of blue for this era - at least here's a few more to look into.
Thanks SO much guys ! ! ! It's kind of a Goldilocks decision, this one's too dark, this one's too light. If I could wait until the cruise night season to begin, I'd probably be OK, but Winters are traditional engine building times and I'd love to finish this up as soon as possible and place it in the ch***is. The Plasticote looks like the color that I remember from my old Mustang convert, Duplicolor is almost too dark. I'm going to try the Plasticote on a pair of valve covers and see if I can get used to them. Again, thanks for this. TC
Are you doing a correct restoration? The light blue ford had was in my view the ugliest color engine color next to the chryco blue. I'd go with the darker version. My 2 cents
The Duplicolor 1621 is the correct color for 66' Fords on up. The lighter color was used on earlier models, primarily the inline 200s. Ford V8s were black blocks and gold valve covers and air cleaners. I took the air cleaner with me and the 1621 is dead on.
"Are you doing a correct restoration?" Oh no, not at all, just the opposite. I'm in the early middle stage of building an MGA as though it might have run in the old NHRA Modified Sports Car cl***es. The ch***is is at the mid point, I've used an early VW Beetle front beam set up like a G***er-style tube front axle, and it's almost ready for the engine test fit. It's only going to see a bit of Nostalgia Day racing, and Fast Ford Saturday nights. The engine is a Ford 5.0 with a cam/carb/long tube headers/etc. nothing much. I'm back dating to look like a '67 289 to the uninitiated. I'd like it to look as though it was pulled from a stock Fairlaine or Mustang of that era and just stuffed into the MGA "as-is" maybe with one or two go fast goodies. Just having a little fun, but I remember my '67 Mustang and kinda liked the look of the stock engine, especially after coming off of Chevys and all of that bright orange. No need for perfection, but I'd like to add to the masquerade as best I can and you guys have helped a lot ! Thanks, TC
Again, thanks all. Found this on the web; not only helps with the color, but also shows a handful of the details and decals and such. http://www.mustangmonthly.com/howto...ect_vintage_mustang_engine_paint/viewall.html TC
