Took a nice drive in the 37 this morning, about 30 miles or so. Car is running great and I'm a happy camper! As I pulled in my driveway the P/S goes away and smoke starts pouring from the hood. I shut it off, jumped out and opened the hood. I see FLAMES!!! HOLY CRAP!!! I had the fire extinguisher on the front seat and was able to get it out without too much trouble. My heart rate is starting to get back to normal I think. Anyway, my point is.....

FIRE EXTINGUISHER, DON'T LEAVE HOME WITHOUT ONE!

Pressure hose for the P/S let go, spraying the drivers side header. That's where the flames were.

    Great save. Any serious damage?

  7. You were a lucky guy for sure .

All our vehicles here have a Fire extinguisher in them . Whenever possible I try to mount them so that the driver can reach and release them while seated and wearing the seatbelt . Could be the difference between life and death in a nasty crash .

First, I'm happy to hear that your OK, and that the car survived.

I agree with you, every car I build has a fire extinguisher mounted in it.

  9. Is this close enough? (Look between the seats)

Get that chemical off of the paint it will eat the paint in a very short time.

  11. Not just the paint. As has been said, it's very corrosive!

Had the same thing happen to my friend's 39 Pontiac coupe. He was on his way home from a cruise, thought he smelled gas right before he pulled into his driveway. When he got out he saw flames coming out from the hood (no hood sides) No extinguisher he grabbed near by garden hose and was able to put it out..... burnt some wires spot on hood and fender but it could have been worse... he went out next day and got extinguisher. 2 week old fuel pressure regulator from local auto parts store started spraying gas was the cause. Good news insurance covered everything.

  15. I am a big fan of extinguishers.Once had a backfire on an open header with my Corvette and it set a rag on fire that was lying under the car. I didn't notice it until the plastic was burning. Lucky to get it out before it engulfed the whole plastic fantastic.

Hopefully all those who mount theirs in the trunk will take notice and place it inside the car where it's available quickly when needed.

Gave the 37 a good cleaning today, top and bottom. It looks like I escaped with nothing more than a few stains on the drivers side header. I have a pressure hose on order and hope to be back on the road next week. Thanks for all the kind words.
