    Hello ..

A member here asked me to post some pictures I took of a few of the old cars rumbling around Havana. These where all taken in 2013 ..

Most of these cars have Lada Diesel Engines .. a few are completely original ..

These are all daily drivers .. there seems to be as many pre-1959 cars on the road as modern.. most are patched together and its surprising that they run at all.. I rode in a desoto which had a lada engine, Pugeout dash, VW lights and mercedes steering wheel .. Cuban's are exceptional at patching things together..

There are some very special cars, restored and used as touristy taxis.. I have pictures of lots of them ..

FWIW I'm going to be starting a non for profit charity

    " Wheels for Cuba "

Your donation of as little as 4 wheels per year, could help the people of Cuba to restore pride in their cl***ic Am. cars. The U.S. has not lifted the trade embargo out of the fear that all of these god awful wheels we managed to get rid of in the 90's, will make their way back into our country. Please, help restore the worlds balance by donating a set of steelies, wires, or at least some sombrero hubcaps to the people of this desloate country. Your wheels could save the world

There has probably been 30 or mover in the last 3 years,,do a search!

    BTW Jokerbird,,wheres your intro?HRP

  13. Nice pics! Obviously, because of the embargo, they had to improvise. Lots of these cars now run on 4 cyl. engines. There's a local salvage yard owner I know of, who could not sell his old car parts here because the parts were in such bad shape. So He had the brilliant idea to ship all the parts via some containers to Cuba. He made a fortune there! He gave a new lease on life to many of those cars in Cuba!

Can we do an exchange, gently used wheels and tires for authentic, unused Cuban cigars?

So that's where most of the four doors went.

    Not the sombreros!

  18. Yeah.....quality and condition and restoration seems to run the gamut
over there. I've seen some that look like really nice restos (probably
owned by someone with a bit of money) and then some pretty good
looking maintenance work.....then some are beaters but still going.
