    not exactly answering what was asked, but I've found that razor blades (the single-edge kind you buy in packs) work great for getting that scum layer off the windows and windshield of a car.

    Might also work for that really thick smoke on the inside...........

    Yup. I bought a pos driver from a lady who smoked 3 packs a day, and I think she smoked all 3 packs in the car. The windows were yellow. Really. They were yellow. I scraped the yellow gunk off with a razor blade and windex cleaned up what was left easily.

    So far Iv'e used mean green, laquer thiner ,razor blades, and glass cleaner
    . But when you drive into the sun it's still tough.

    tough stuff over-spray etc. razor blade keep it flat or you'll scratch

    My dad retired from repairing cash registers in stores and bars and cleaning the outer cabinet of the registers was a part of the service. Ammonia is what he used to cut through the tough yellow film, straight ammonia on the worst ones.
