needed to know if the steel part of the motor mount is the same for 6 cylinder and v/8. on pickups and surburbans. i was in the bone yard looking at a 6 cylinder set of mounts , the steel frame part sure looks the same as 8. anybody know for sure? thanks

  2. The V8 mounts (you're talking the frame stands, right?) were different. The 6 cylinder mounts sit farther back if you look straight down at them. The 6 cylinder mounts can be used, but they move the engine farther back and it gets really close on the distributor and the firewall. Plus, all of the clutch and carb linkage gets funky because the engine isn't in the usual spot.

If you need a pair of V-8 mounts, PM me. I think I have an extra set

i know the 230 and 250 share the same stands as a v8 ,but one side needs to be relocated.

post 64 stands are the same, and will work in an earlier frame, you just have to drill the holes. I believe the holes for the v8 are already drilled into the post 64 frame, so you can just move the one if you are putting a v8 in. I am not sure when the mount style changed, but i know 67 towers are the same. Cant remember if 68 or 9 are the same.

I went from the 6 to a 283 in my '65 C30.. don't recall swapping out the frame mounts, but this was 640,238,756 brain cells ago. They may have been swapped side for side.

  9. Depending on the year chevy truck, depends on which type of engine mounts they had. GMC had their own on the V6 models, the GMC inline 6 trucks shared the same 6 cylinder as the chevy's. 1960-62 chevy V8 mounts were a big "u" shape.

The inline 6 mounts on 1960-62 had thier own version of the "u" shaped mount.

1963-66 chevy V8 engine towers are the same as the inline 6 equipt trucks, except for the 292 inline 6 trucks. These models had 2 different engine mounts that wont work on a sbc.
