Yep...knew them both Dick Vest had the world's fastest Small block dragster ,at one time How about Labe Garaino? Both Labe and Dick's pictures are hanging at Don Garlits museum last I remember I was working at "Dave Reids speed shop" at the time after High School Remember Dave Reid's D/gas 57 Chevy convert called "Motivation?"
I believe they called the car "The Green Monster".I saw it at Brookgate shopping center in around 1970-71 i think.
One of the Green MOnsters" is the car Dave Cory was killed in Dave was one of the Older guys in High school,I looked up to " Dave Corey <!-- ParagraphTitleEnd --> <!-- ParagraphBodyStart -->Born: January 6, 1946 Died: August 21, 1972 Buried: Age: 26 Full Name: David L. Corey Nickname: Drag Strip: Puyallup Raceway Park, Washington Event: Northwest Top Fuel Championships Accident Date: about August 19, 1972 Car: jet dragster Biographical: There were four exhibition jet cars on the program. He was racing Roger Gustin when his parachute ripped off in the lights and he crashed into a tree. He suffered a broken arm and leg, but died at Good Samaritan Hospital after developing a blood clot in his lung. He was from Dayton, Ohio (although some reports said he was from York, Pennsylvania). Although he was the driver for Art Arfons "Malco Monster" J-46 Westinghouse-powered jet dragster, it was reported that he was driving a different car at the time of his accident. 1971 100 0.000 0.00 David Corey Malco Monster J46 West 71 Arfons JD Dayton
Arfons shop was in Akron......used to go by the place as a kid ......place looked like a junk yard......a high preformance junk yard
Dick actually had two 23 t buckets before he passed. there was an orange one with a single carb and a purple one he had sold to Bill stepp and repurchased in about 1985, this one had a blower. He also had a burgandy 67' Camaro with a tunnel ram and was tubbed out. He was a great guy. I Believe he actually passed in 1988. Also i beleive his daughter Vicki did sell the tbucket quite a few years ago.
Can't believe nobody mentioned Sam Gellner. He had a few gassers back in the day and still has a shop in Parma.
Pat Dakin still runs a Top Fuel car down near Dayton, Bob Gottschalk BB/FC. Dick Titsworth BB/FC, Johnny Davis (works with Head). Dave Webber, Bill Goudreau AA/FD. Butch Osmon, And of course JC Sparks. Wait, I'm not famous, I'm notorious.

I own the Willy's Wagon Clyde Sutton raced in the 1967 Nationals at Indy, and was wondering if anybody knows of any cars for sale that these guys used to race
Gellner did my engine as well... The son runs the place now, his dad is still around. They do alot with motor cycles. Last time I went by Art Arphonses place it still had a sign, Home of the Green Monster. That was 3 years ago. To my klnowledge its still there. If any one remember Strayer. He ran The prostock 57 chevy under the name UNK. He is still around as well. And last Roger LaTampa ran with ARt Arphons back in the day from Akron. I am always looking for pics of his Anglia, and other cars. His son has his original Vette. from the late 50's
Anybody know anything about this 316ci Pontiac Blower motor? It came out of Ohio near Akron? Had it shipped to Washington last week.
Here's my dad and his Fathom Green Yenko Camaro at Kil Kare I believe. We think that's his time on the window.. There's tons of stories about him and this car that are somewhat legendary around Dayton. I've heard from strangers about them. I also heard a story about a guy who had a Yenko back in the day and how the car is still around today.. I'll never tell though..
Here is one of my ole cars. Ran Ohio mostly from the 80's to present. I just put a fresh 496 in this car on pump gas, dyno'd at 630HP with my 780, before he added the new manifold and dominator, street legal and ready to race. Should be a handful on the street......Belongs to a friend, coming up for sale. gasserted Car won a Champianship when Mark Horton had it.
A fellow by the name of Ray Sowers from Columbus had a flathead powered roadster that held the national record several times, circa 1960-1962. No pictures but a beautiful home built blue roadster.
