    help me identify this thing
    I put the distributor there myself because it fits there
    i have seen something like this on the side of a engine
    I like to know the age and for what car

    Boat parts maybe? Looks like a water pump or some sort of pump built in also.

    That is an odd one. With the external oil pump, distributor drive an water pump it is really different than the normal setups.

    Does it have a gear on the other side of the housing to drive the shaft or does the gear on the end of the shaft drive the whole ***embly through the shaft with the rag joints?

    Are there any manufacturer markings on any of the parts? That would probably help a lot.

    Could be marine based, or off some sort of specialized industrial or farm implement engine. Maybe even some sort of auxiliary system for a fire truck. Engines are all over the place besides just vehicles.
