Can anyone tell me if '32 front fender braces were originally handed? If not, who makes the best aftermarket ones? I've just got some that fit badly and do not correctly follow the contour of the fender. Thanks
I have aftermarket ones and they took a bit of tweaking to get them to sit just right, it was a real bear putting the headlight bar on too...........
Done a bunch of these, originals and repos, and they all take a bit of work. Braces are off, and so is the contour of the fenders, both my 80 year old originals, and brookvilles.I mount them, set distance for headlight bar, a fixed point, and then start fitting to fender contour. I've tucked them up against the inside of fender to get the most wheel clearance possible, but then the fender edge bolt hole is off, so it needs to be cut and lengthened. Then try to get the over hang and height to the ground the same side to side.
greg32 When you say "set the distance for the headlight bar, a fixed point," can you explain fsarther, I don't exactly follow?
I fix repo parts by making a jig off a good original part. Put holes in s**** steel and bolt them to the part. Weld supports between the bolted parts. Now you can fit the repo part and have it fit.
Sure, bolt the braces to the frame loosely, take the headlight bar, bolt it to braces. Tighten frame/brace bolts. The idea is to set the distance between the braces so the headlight bar lines up nicely.Might need to tweak braces so the headlight bolt holes line up.Should be able to remove HL bar easily. This distance is then a fixed point, and now lay the fenders on the braces and start fitting outside ends of braces to bottom of fender. I also cut the inside HL bolt shorter so it goes in with minimal h***le. It is hard to mount HL bar depending on who's dropped bar you have. I started a thread some time ago about this. Good luck.
Thanks, I have had the fenders and HL bar off numerous times and have difficulty re-***embling without the HL bar looking lower on the p*** side.
