I was looking looking at the build photos of the 1954 Ford Ranch Wagon and saw the gas pedal that my father in law used when the original one broke and the rust in the floor didn't help. My wife actually drove this car for a while before it was pushed in the barn quiet a few years ago,,,I laughed when I saw it again and though Clyde would fit in good with the RR guys of today,,,at the time he did it with what was available,,just a old South Georgia Country boy fix. After all the metal patch work,in excess of 100 patch panels and 9 years work the current gas pedal looks considerably better. HRP
The story as it was told that he was out fishing and just as he had pulled the boat out of the lake the gas pedal just broke. No one around,no cell phones back then,Clyde saw a old barn that was covered with kudzu not far from the boat ramp,,he checked it out and saw the old door laying on the ground and just pulled the hinge off the rotten wood,,dug around in his tool box and found some screws and bolted it in place,,,,it stayed that way until i pulled it off I believe I still have it somewhere in the old garage. Best part is they come in different sizes and finishes. Hey, back then they used what they had, and looks like it worked for a long time.
I have been considering alternative designs for the gas pedal in my coupe........but I think I will p*** on that one.
My Model A from a Farm in Alabama was missing its original starter pedal...the replacement was a very neatly carved pecan wood rod.
