Uploaded with ImageShack.us OK boys and girls, here's the deal. I was going to run nerfs on my 47, and may still on the front, but I'm now leaning more toward a full bumper on the back. I'm a lot like my grand daughter, I'll probably change my mind before I finish this post. Anywayyy, I went to search, looked at a lot of bumpers. I'm starting to think maybe I could take a note from the 50's customizers and m***age the stock bumper brackets to move the stock bumper closer to the body. Maybe an inch or so, instead of the six or so that the bumper hangs off in it's stock location. There is also the idea of bending up some of the 1 1/2 tube I have to make a g***er style bumper. My exhaust artist wants me to finish whatever I'm going to do back there before he does his magic, and I can appreciate that. I would like to incorporate some sort of hitch to pull a tiny swap meet trailer, and the tube bumper may help in that regard. What ideas do you all have? Thanks, Mike
My favorite fat fender Ford bumper is the '41 Ford with the bumper blades shortened and tucked into the body. The '41 blade has the Ford emblem stamped in the center.
^^^^^^^^ I like that. Is the splash shield cut back also, or is it left alone? Kool Rides has them in 3 or 5 rib. They have them for 49-51 Ford, 49-50 Merc, 49-53 Chevy, 48 Pontiac, and 42 Plymouth. I'm guessing I'd use 49 Chevy?
Nightprowlers in Arkansas has 3 & 5 rib bumpers. Thier also Alliance Vendors so you can save 5% off the price.
OK, After looking at different ideas, I've decided to go with the old school trick of modifying the bumper brackets, moving the rear bumper closer to the body. That gets rid of the splash shield, which is the part I don't like in the first place. I'll do a tech thread, if I get a chance. Thanks, all........
