As some of you know I've been lusting for a "T" Coupe for awhile now. Every thing I'd seen had been out of my price range or on the other side of the country. I finally found a nice one last week and picked it up Sat. The guy I got it from said that he had bought it off e-bay and the previous owner said that it ran. I found the carb. in the trunk with dirt dobber's nests in every hole of it so I thought "yea sure, downhill". I cleaned out the carb and put it on, put a little gas in the tank, bought a new 6V battery and cranked it over. It sputtered and popped like it wanted to crank. Called a buddy of mine that fools with Antique's and he gave me the name of a friend of his that has some T's. The guy came over and in about 20 min. had it running. To make a long story short he ended up buying all the old running gear and I was able to recoup over half what I'd paid for the car. Now I'm off to buy some 2x3 tubing to start building a ch***is... do I chop it 8" or 10"? decisions, decisions..
1st, congradulations on your SCORE and a buyer for that old drivetrain . As to the chop ? ... that depends on if you want to enjoy driving for 10 minutes or 10 hours.
i have a 27 coupe, i'm going to chanel it and put in my seat and sit in it then mark how much to chop so i can drive long dist. have a 34 cpe. chop & chan that gives neck ache on trips, looks kool tho......boo
Well that sounds good that a least the original running gear stuff is going to someone that can use it. Are you sure you don't want to have this kind of fun. \/ \/ \/ \/ http://members.cox.net/dnlpatn/modelT/ModelTClub/dwpsTAA.wmv
Chop it between 10-12", no less. They just look perfect like that. My next project is gonna be a 11" chopped '26/27 Coupe. Keep us posted! -Dean
Congrats on your find, thats cool that you were able to sell off some parts to fund your start. Thats the way to do it.
I'm jealous. A T coupe is one of my all-time favorites. Sorry I didn't make it over on Sunday to check it out. Sounds like I missed the excitement. I got far deeper into my Kraut Wagen project than I had planned and couldn't get away. I prefer a tall T coupe (ala Mercury Charlie's). That tall top is part of what makes them so unique IMHO. Having said that though, the light green one above is just about perfect. I'd think seriously about trading my RPU for the light green one if it was available. Anyway.... If you chop it, chop it hard. I'll be glad to help with anything I can. Just let me know. Sounds like you've got most of a ch***is scrounged up already. I'll call later, or maybe I can sneak out of here for a bit..... Congratulations on the score! JH
A Hot Rod my intro was about 236 posts ago, not a lot to tell just an Old Fart with a bunch of Junk that I like to fool with. Been a Firefighter for over 32 years now. Have about a year and a half till I retire. Yea I like the green car also, don't know if I could stand that much of a chop tho. I was looking at it last nite and with 10" out the windows were still about 8" high. That's the same as my A Coupe has and I like it fine. I'll get some pics when I have a chance, spent all day today in a cl*** on weapons of m*** destruction. Have to take My Father to the Doctor tomorrow as his Cancer is coming back again. May have a chance this Sunday if something else doesn't come up. Jim I talked to Mike at the machine shop today about your problem, he suggested Flemming Machine Shop. Haven't had a chance to talk to John Sherrod yet, I think he may be able to fix it tho. If I get back in time from Dad's tomorrow I'll try to get in touch with him.
