I really like that second pic... its a unique vehicle so i think a few subtle mods would really set it off but not detract from the overall feel of the original look.

Needs more curve where the sides meet the back of the cab. Very cool otherwise.

In my opinion, back of cab looks too square. To avoid the "cut off wagon" look, maybe consider the back of a similar year dodge pickup, with the quarter windows, nice and round, to match the rest of the "El Plymino". again, IMO

    Hey,

Damnit El Ply.....I'll never look at a more door Plymouth the same, again.

    The second almost looks factory..

more curve would make it look more like a Ford, or a chebbie or a......you get the point...

I like the Fords better, IMHO, but I also want to see things that are different....leave it different...

    my two cents

The color combo of the wheels int he 2nd pic looks better imho.

As far as body mods go, I wouldn't chop or cut the roof off. It's not a roadster, and it shouldn't try to be one. I would "anti-section" the bed, meaning raise the height of it so that it looks more in proportion. right now the bed looks too low in comparison to the front of it, the side profile needs to line up to pull off a factory look.

I like it though, looks real good.

  11. I sold my 50 so:)...i dont have that brotherhood thingy anymore:(
but i think its cool the way it is !
The only thing i'd do to it is a grill treatment...

maybe alittle more rounded at the back of the cab, but it looks killer otherwise. Run it hoodless with a unmuffled baby hemi, acouple carbs, slight chop and low stance...

  13. The back of the cab isn't so bad. Just as long as it isn't flat with right angles. Maybe the addition of a character line across the back below the glass would help.

I've always thought that the front bumper on this model protruded too far and gives the car the effect of an underbite (dental/mouth/tooth/orifice reference). Suppose the bumper were to be repositioned back a few inches or a new bumper selected?

I'm curious about what hooding the headlights might do. Sort of 55 -59 Chevy-GMC truck. Frenching isn't bad though.

The mouth has lots of room for improvement. You have bumper guards and grill teeth all squeezed into the same horizontal plane down at the bottom. Too cluttered and any detail is lost and the theme is muddled.
Either delete some stuff or move something up off the bottom of the grill and into the dagmar/tusk altitude. The front would look much better with more integration of grill and bumper.

The proportions and the overall lines of the car work real well in this design. I wouldn't do anything like top chopping. What you have is both unique and clean without any distracting flash. Even the low key color is fine.

I think it's pretty cool as it is, but what about this? Make it look more like a truck by creating a seperation between the "box" and "cab" areas. It wouldn't have to be a full real seperation, could just be a skin alteration. Cleaned up the body a little bit, and tried to do somethin' about the bumper and grill.

A big ol' visor would probly look killer on it too.

I tried the "anti-section" on the box, and it makes the rear look way too bulky.

And this had to start out as a Suburban...not a 4 dr. From a 4dr to this would be a helluva lotta work.

evilgenius...I really dig the way ya handled the rear fenders. Classy. Same for the mopar wheels.

Thanks for all the input. I'm just starting on this project and haven't changed anything since it was drug out of a barn. I should have given you a before pic to compare. So here it is. I think evils photoshop improved it 100 percent. The paint was laid on in 1956 when it was reborn a truck.

Hey sinkemlow and 51ratt. Those are awsome mods. Jesus, which way to go? All are great. But, I gotta see a roadster chop, please..:D

This was a 2 door fastback sedan before. Serial number confirms that. It has the shorter fordoor front doors on it because it was a short wheelbase car and the farmer wanted a bed to haul walnuts to market. True story.

Wow that's surprising. I would bet that they took the back of a 'burban then...those rear fenders are not found on any of the sedans or coupes. Plus the shape is dead on fer a 'burban. Crazy.

I think they are cut down burb fenders. Excuse the trailer wheels and tires...I was trying on tire sizes.

  25. Yeah if that was a mor-door wagon, I could see it. But a coupe-no way!

  26. They did a nice job on the fender proportions if cut down. It has the look of an Aussie Ute.

I remember that Fords experiment with the Unibody Pickup in the early 60's ended when they found that any significant load in the bed caused body flex through the cab with various degrees of hurt.

But if you're just going to be hauling your nuts to town then what-me-worry?:)

(we need an Alfred E. Neuman smilie)

Go with it! I think it looks awesome. I'm trying to talk a friend into doing something similar with his Dodge.
