A question for all you paint gods and goddesses out there in hot rod land: I will be painting some graphics down over black epoxy primer in a few days. The paint is a ppg Shopline acrylic urethane (jau code). How long do I wait, after applying the paint to remove the masking tape? I have been told one to two hours- is that right? Thanks for your help! Earl Sheib **XIV
Wait for it to flash, which ought to be less than 30 minutes if you are using to proper reducer / activator. Then be very careful, pulling the tape back against itself. If you let it dry too long, you run the risk of pulling your graphics up with the tape.
Yes, 1 to 2 hours sounds right. Don't leave the tape on overnight, I like to remove tape before the paint has totally set up for sure.
depends on the conditions you are painting under, in my booth solvent based paints flash off about 10 to 20 minutes . Temp, reducers and who is spraying make a big difference.
I wait about 15-20 mins. Then I start touching the painted tape with my finger If it is tacky I wait if my finger does not stick anymore I start pulling the tape.Check every 15 mins. or so times vari.... Steve
Thanks for the help guys! Sorry Gman- I was just trying to speak in terms you would understand. Didn't mean to get your mullet in a ruffle...
Amen to that! Nothing better than slivering during tear off and adhesive transfer. 3M 233+ is the way to go
As stated I always pulled off tape after paint flashed and at a sharp angle as to help cut paint and do not go too fast.
