Hello all. Hope to learn some things. I have a '59 Silver Hawk with (currently) a small block Chevy crate engine. Nash Solanki is building a supercharged Studebaker R2/R3 clone for me; hope to install it this summer. Regards, John Sartorius
Welcome, John, from the Left Coast; good to hear you will be returning your Stude to its pure-bred status. That motor will be the talk-of-the-town!
Welcome from Richmond, John. Love those Studebakers! In the sixties, there was a Lark with an R/2 that would run at Richmond Dragway. I loved to watch it show the Big Boys the short way home! There is an active group of Virginia HAMB'ers that you might want to check out HERE:http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?groupid=69 mo
That supercharged Stude engine will do wonders for your Hawk. I love the old Stude motors. Got one in my 54 Coupe with a 4 speed and I love it.
Well, I've got the small block chevy engine out, and the Studebaker engine in, but am having tuning issues. Will get it sorted this winter -- I need to drive it to the SDC International meet this summer! (50th anniversary of the end of US production & all ).
Let's try this again -- reposting (hopefully w/o the duplicate photos this time): Has been a long time since I posted, but the car is now running great, though I have a minor power steering issue to deal with. Dyno'ed at just over 350 hp on Precision Engine II's dyno in GA in June (those guys are amazing -- I can't say enough good things about Bill and Jeff Ford). And the wonderful thing about a boosted engine is... when you step on it at 3000 rpms on the freeway... it GOES! See photos (drove it home to Man***as from GA over the 4th of July weekend).
