My cruiseomatic in my 61 tbird died recently.I have been looking for a inexpensive way get her back on the road.A trans overhaul is not affordable at the moment.I found a recently rebuilt fmx from behind a 351c cheap. Will the bell housings on the two trans interchange? They look to be removable, but I have never had one apart.Any help would be appreciated.Trying to make it to the Round Up.
I think the FMX might work, both the FMX and COM have removable bellhousings and are basicly the same trans. Pull the COM out and measure the front shaft and check the spline counts, then check the torque convertor where it slides in the trans to see if its identical to the FMX. If all matches up then I see no reason whey it wont work.
Got a reply on the trans forum that I could use the com bellhousing by redrilling the upper holes, the lower line up.I bought the fmx,so I guess I wil know soon...
You will like the FMX better has it has a normal shift pattern, they can also be used behind a Y block too with a little modifiction which I will be doing in a couple years. I think the FMX has a rear pump like the COM and still can be push started too.
