Im looking for a cam that would be one step above stock and would allow me to still use the stock hydraulic lifters.

Does anybody know who makes such a beast???

Give Bullet Racing Cams a call. You can also fill out this recommendation form to get the process started: http://www.bulletcams.com/RecForm/index.html

They did a custom grind for my 390 and they are fairly reasonable too. You probably already know, but you have to be careful on the early cads if you aren't running adjustable rockers, which I am. PM me if you need any more 390 advice... I've gone a little overboard on mine and have learned a lot.

    Pete,
Chris Nielson Cams in UT. Highly recommended from what I've read here on the board. That's where I'm go. If you need it fast I have that Isky on the shelf.

Wait a minute! Damn! You're gonna build a hot rod motor now!? A custom cam!?!? I thought you only ran rebuilt junkyard stockers?!!?

Stock hyd lifters as in new but oem? or actually reuse the existing?

You will also need new pushrods unless you have adjustable rockers.

As for a cam grinder, there are thousands of us 'out there', you might even find someone in your local area. Ask at your local parts house.

I have all NOS Johnson hyd. lifters for the caddy motor...I want a simple system, not looking for a lumpy cam, just a nice streetable mild cam that I can use my stock rockers and hyd. lifters, if possible.

    Stock Specs

its a .451 lift cam, just a guess at the .050 duration since it is measured is measured at .001, say 199-202, the lobe separation is 113 but the cam is in the motor 10 degrees retarded at Intake CL 123.

I'm not sure if this is from the different opening and closing ramps or if the cam is really that retarded. Other than killing off some compression pressure I can't imagine why they would do that in 1962.

Here is the readily available. Melling CASC-2 , about 170 at OReileys.

Its about the same lift and duration as stock but on 111 Lobe Sep, and is 2.5 Retarded, intake at 113.5 ( I'd advance it to 108 intake).

The Isky 265H cam is 202 at .050, .450 lift, 112 Lobe Sep., so same as Melling within 1 degree.

There is available (google) a Performance Now(Rebuilders Choice) available thats a bit of an upgrade.

    Adv/dur
    268/268
    .050 duration - 218/218
    .300/.300 cam lift
    .480/.480 valve lift
    Centerline- 108/112

With the intake set to 108 that looks like the best off the shelf choice, IMHO

    Your Mileage Will Vary

Chris just did a cam for me for the Caddy 390 in my coupe.Hydraulic,109 LSA which give you that nice lope,224@.050 280 adv duration .464" lift

don't remember the grind on mine, but I'm pretty sure it was milder than that. I'm thinking mine had a 242 advance, but that's the only number that stuck in my pea brain after a decade. still happy with the results.

I like the 106 Intake, I knew an Olds 303 stocker that ran a 99 Intake CL to get cylinder pressure, ran about 1/2 second under. Seemed to be the hot tip for a while more duration and advance the cam to get the intake closed on time (79ish).

Early EVO seems to add "lope".
