After viewing bobbyhstl's photos in color of this event, I thought I would show how the poor folks took pictures in B&W. Some cars were spectator cars, customs, that I was interested in and others are race cars. The trip was a group of Strokers Club members mostly 17 and 18 year olds. deChrome
The finish. Not all interest was in cars as one picture will show. You may note some of the more famous cars included Ohio George's 34 Ford coupe with the bobed front fenders, the Arfon's airplane engine powered dragsters. and one purple Ohio 32 3window Hot Rod feature car. deChrome
Yes one picture from the '55 ATAA nationals survived. I sent the "55 pictures to a friend in France and never got them back. If Chip Euing is on this forom maybe he still has them and can post them. The roadster picture was carried in my wallet for a long time as inspiration for the Olds powered roadster that I was building in High School. deChrome
Scanned your pictures for a friends 56 Golden Hawk. He was in the 100 MPH club in 56. Thanks for the memories.

Thanks for the great pics. I was born and raised in Lawrenceville and attended the '55 World Series as a budding 12 year old hotrodder. I was there with my older brother who was a member of the Quarter Milers car club. Jim
Third photo on page 2-rear view of a '32 3 window with Ohio ----YY plates. I'm guessing Lima based on the plate but can you make out the club plate in the original photo? It doesn't help when I expand the image but then these eyes are 75 years old.
The Purple 32 3 window coupe was from Lima Ohio and was a Hot Rod feature car in the 50s. The sixth picture in the fourth post is also the same car. It was raced and entered as a show car. One unique feature were the built in windwing windows on the doors. By memory, the car was on the cover of Hot Rod as a smaller picture. Maybe someone can find the cover. deChrome
I found it. It's Bill Breese's Olds powered car which was on the cover of the August '56 issue. 'Seems that car has been the subject of a thread here on the H.A..M.B. not too long ago. Memory says it went to the West Coast and was torn apart for a redo and never made it back together. Does that ring a bell with anyone?
Made my first p*** at George Field in summerof 1958 and knew many of the Quarter Milers Many of them have p***ed on but I have a lot of good memories from there.
Yeah, I'm a little late. But as far as the Bill Breece car goes, it was chosen as one of the top 75 Deuces in 2007. This is what it looked like at the 75th display at the GNRS. Mick
