I have a 53 Bel air and the car has was converted to 12v by previous owner. Im wondering is there a way to get the old 6v fuel guage to work again or am I better offer dropping tank and getting a new float and etc.
When I had my 53, I coverted it and put a runtz resistor on the gauge so it stayed working. Is yours hooked up? Does it have a resistor on the back?
Whoever converted car to 12v only did the essentials. The lights for gauges don't even work so I'm ***uming no resistor
If it was coverted to 12v you would need to change all the light bulbs on the car . I know you can get the resistor from LMC but I am sure you can get it from many places.

does the gauge work at all? odes it register anything? reason i ask is because i converted my 50 to 12v and did not put resistor inline with gauge. my gauge still works, just inaccurately. the needle always shows full then starts bouncing around when the level drops. i would usually fill it when it showed 1/4 tank. my point is that if your gauge is not moving at all then the wire is probably unplugged or there is a fault in system.. my 2 pennies
