No pics of the build , My grandpa bought 1955 chevy new , my dad drove it to high school an customized it , he showed it in the 60's kiel auditorium . He got it on the cover in nov.1962 Custom Rodder. He sold it mid 60's He saw it for sale at county speed shop St.Louis Mo in the 70's He lost track of it after that..I just thought it would be nice to find . And take some pic's to show my dad that it's still around..
I would think in the last 50 years the car has probably changed hands many times and each owner has changed it to meet their idea of a custom. I wish you good luck in finding the car. HRP
Yeah , I know it's been along time . I just thought maybe someone saw it tucked away in a garage or barn somewhere ? Thank's Jerry Z
I got afew leads none turned out ., Anybody seen it in a garage or in a barn somewhere ? Thank's Jerry
Do you have the serial number? since a restorer could have gotten a hold of it and put it back to original.
I don't know the vin , I checked with my dad and he doesn't have a record of the vin.. I wish he did..
Thank's it would be nice to see it again. may be if I can find a 55 2dr hardtop cheap I could build a clone.. LOL
The Motor vehicle adminstration can give the vin/title info to your father if he requests it or signs with notary for you to get the info -once you have a title # you could do a title search
There was a 55 Chevy custom featured in Hot Rod in about 58, had the same tail light treatment. Was built in Kansas then was bought from sombody in St Louis which was when it was featured. Did your grandfather see this car and build his own version. When you started this thread, I thought it might be the same car.
Aye !That would be a fun clone project. Your Dad prolly can recall every thing as for details of the build. It takes a lot of sticktoivness to do a true clone. Your dad and I are near the same age. Bill aka Tnomoldw
Thank's Tnomoldw , It would be fun to build a clone. But I was hoping that someone would know where it is now ..
Unless it was totaled or left outside to rot somewhere after it was seen in the 70's, I think chances are good it survived. It could have been in a front end crash and the front sheetmetal replaced, but there'd be no hiding the rear custom work. I disagree that it would have been restored to stock. Too much work to replace the front end as well as return the rolled rear pan and tailights to stock as well as the Pontiac side trim, etc. Neat car! I bet the engine got tired and someone parked it in a garage. Hope it turns up.
Thank's that's why I think it's sitting in a garage or barn somewhere.. because of all the body work that was done .. He used 1954 olds trim on the side & 1956 packard tail lights.
Well, I don't know any news about the whereabouts of the car but I did buy that issue off the magazine rack when I was 16 and remember that it was one sharp looking car at the time. Truth be known you may have walked by that exact car at a car show in the past few years after someone put a stock nose and tallights back in it after it got wrecked or just because they didn't like the quad lights. A lot of mild custom tri 5 Chevys got "restored" in the late 70's and the 80's when the custom look faded.
Thank's nice looking chevy My grandpa bought the 55 chevy new than my dad started to customize it in 57 , He used 56 packard tail lights 54 olds side trim , He used to show it at indoor car shows . was on the cover of Custom Rodder Nov 1962..

If you can't find it then I would say that you need to make a tribute car to your dad's creation. That would be just as cool. Jay
