Still trying to get in the game, but I'm probably being (too) picky. For more years than I can remember, I've wanted a hiboy Ford roadster, but they are so $$$, so last year, I think that I did the next best thing - bought a plain black - no windshield - 2006 Harley Super Glide...and I love it. Nothing like it. I've put over 8,000 miles on it in a little over 10 mos., and I'm going to try to hit 10K miles before mid-April. That said, I'm still looking and positioning for that Ford hiboy, hopefully maybe being able to either trade for one or sell the bike and buy one someday. My question is: how hard is the following to find, and how much do they go for: a '29, '32-'34 Ford roadster body and rolling ch***is? Thank you.
Your question is too open. Need to tell us what year because they vary WIDELY, and how complete of a "rolling ch***is". You can look in catalogs for this sort of thing if you mean repro stuff. Or else just shop the HAMB cl***ifieds, Ebay, and Craigslist.
I don't know what the motorcycle has to do with your desire for a hiboy roadster,,sell it and help fund the roadster. You can buy in with just the frame and go from there. If you been looking you will surly see that the Model A roadster is a heck of a lot cheaper to build than a 32-34. HRP
Further to what HotRodPrimer said, I'd also suggest you look at all four years of Model A, not just 1929...
Weird post. Game? The prices can vary greatly. I'll have less than 10k in my wifes' '29 roadster by the time it's driving. I wouldn't be expecting to get even remotely close to that for a 32-34. Stick to Model A's if $$ is a factor. Buy a cool one. Don't be afraid to ask questions and be humble. Keep an open mind and you can get a lot out of it.
This dude lives in my town and bought this car for not alot, probably what an '06 Glide costs. It's pretty traditional and looks super fun. If you're thinking you want more bling/power/polished aluminum you should probaly disregard everything I say cause we ain't on the same wavelength anyway
The bike was the closest that I could get to American-made, simple, raw, lack of refinement, having to be able to drive it, open air, fun for the price, and escape...and it hasn't disappointed. It also should turn out to be a good investment, at least not losing, unless I wreck it...so I'm using it as a bridge to get where I want to be, which means selling or trading. As far as the year/make/model, I'll throw a roadster pickup in there, too. I've spent hours looking for an old photo in a Hot Rod magazine - if memory serves, maybe the last page of the Jan 1988 issue - it was an old B&W photo of a fenderless Ford Roadster PU, maybe with slotted mag wheels. If I remember correctly, that's the look that I'd like to go after. I want somewhat of a beater, '60's style roadster or roadster pu. I'll probably run a small-block Ford that's already built, a Toploader 4-sp that I have, and go from there. From the bike, I've learned that I don't want a top, and I don't want it too nice to drive in the rain, snow, or salted roads, so little to no chrome. Really, just looking for some direction, which you both have provided. I'll check out the sites that you've listed, and talk to a guy nearby who has Deuce roadster w/a blown Chevy 6-cyl. Thank you.
Dreddybear, very little shine. The car in the pic - too nice for my purpose. Do you have a pic of your wife's '29? ...and game - whether it's golf - which I don't play - or duck hunting, Harley's, or pre-war Fords, seems that you have to pay to play. With a young family, I'm just trying to spend wisely and play smart...I have a lot to learn. It's hard to find people to ask questions, then I don't want to tie up a bunch of their time.
Unless you want a pic of parts strewn about and in boxes and sitting outside then no pic of hers for a while yet. I built this coupe for about 10k. I hurried cause it was my wedding car. I have since torn it apart and made things nice and shiny though.
I was kind of wondering that myself. I have always had bikes (mostly American made) but it has nothing to do with cars whatsoever. Maybe he could find and finance a late model scoot and couldn't do the same with a cl***is car?
"hey" and yes i know this is a scratch shot !!! but truthfully a car with no top is a 4 wheeled motorcycle anway.
come on "beano" when your flyin down the highway at 50 * and 70mph ,maybe mistin rain off & on, tell me your havin fun ??? man i owned one ,they ain't fer me !
Other than two more wheels, old ******* cars have more in common with bikes than they do with newer cars...old ******* cars and bikes: they shake, they're primitive, no protection from the elements, brakes leave a lot to be desired so driving like you're invisible is a necessity, don't want to have a wreck in either one, lots of wind-noise, have their own temperament that you have to learn, hot in summer, cold in winter...if you have both, kinda surprised that you don't see the link, but... Dreddybear - yeah, that's more like it. I'll post a picture of something representing more of the look that I'm after. I just went thru 482 cl***ifieds on this sight. Encouraging...I'll do some looking around on craigslist and in the area. And THR1LL3R, more of a beater than a ratrod. I've been planning on this way back before ratrods were in. I came across a HRM image of Phil Cool's nose-high Deuce roadster. I like that overall look w/diff headlights, wheels, tires, engine...a beater version of this. Always liked that car...
Didn't say one wasn't as much fun as the other, a roadster may be more akin to a trike though. You just lean a roadster over in a corner. I am glad that you are awake by the way, I was afraid you were going to be a post and run type. Now tell me when are we getting together for a sip of shine.
Check into all years of model a's. if money is a deciding factor. The 32-34 cost a bunch of money. You might even look into 26-27. They are cool and pretty easy to find.
That's what I'm thinking if my memory is right - it's been about 20 yrs since I was pouring thru them - I'm going to going thru my old HRMs tonight, and I'll try to post if I find it and can figure it out.
Balin'Wire, Quit Yakkin' Start Looking !!!!!! They are out there. Welcome, frum fellow Tennessean. Where theres Smoke, Thars Fire !
Your bike is most likely worth more than you would need to get a original rolling ch***is and a body that needs work, and a banger to push it around. You can find a ch***is for 2500 and a body for 500-1000 I get the bike thing sort of. why not try to trade it to someone who has an old rod that wants to have a bike.
Hey Balingwire there is a 31 on the first page of the HAMB cl***ifieds. Your neck of the woods and the price is attractive. So's ya know.
Will do, Smokey2. pdunn10, that's what I'm hopin' (I think - plan on riding tomorrow). Good to know about the prices. I'll look some more. Thank you, WillyKJr - going to check it out now.
Have you ever thought of selling some of your gold chains to finance a hot rod purchase? Or did you find the idea unappealing?
Sounds like you're trying to buy your way into the fun. It can't be done. Yea, you can save up some cash and buy a car or maybe throw one together, but it's not the same. I think I speak for a lot of the guys on here when I say, this isn't a "game". A REAL car guy, wanting a hotrod, wouldn't have bought a bike to ease his pain. He would have used the bike money to buy a car and fixed it up. That was probably your first mistake. I'm betting your bike has a note, so it was fairly easy to "get into something". And that's the wrong approach. EASY. I've had people ask me where I bought my car. I look 'em square in the eye and tell 'em it's built NOT bought. Buying in is not the same as working in. Real car guys know what I'm trying to say. I think you need to sit down and find out who you are. A dime store biker or a hotrodder? Find where your soul is. When you figure that out, find an old car you like and ask these guys for some help. They'll step up and help you build it. This ain't a game. And that's my opinion on "trying to get into the game".
