I'll be headed up 75 Friday morning and was thinking about swingin by Honest Charlies...So other than the speed shop is it worth checking out? I know they've got other stuff but didn't know if it was open to the public? Any other suggestions are welcome. I'll be headed up from north of Atlanta and probably taking my time to get to Louisville for the swap meet Saturday morning. Thanks, N8 Sent from my DROID device using the TJJ mobile app
Coker tire is next door, drove down from Knoxville once, it is a small showroom with neat stuff. Salesman never looked up from the phone for 15 minutes so we went next door to Coker. They have tours but didn't fit our schedule so we ate lunch at the City Cafe (great place) and went back home. I guess you need more planning to get the full effect.
Yeah I was just on their website I might have to make phone call... Sent from my DROID device using the TJJ mobile app
Cool place, Coker has two tours daily, I think at 10 and 2. Corky has a big collection of cars and bikes in the back. Honest Charlies is a cool little retail/speed shop. Worth the stop, IMHO.
yes, it is well worth it. there is also around the corner is there restoration shop. that is where the street rodder give away car is being built i believe. there was a chevy nova funny car there also. go down the block to t-bones to eat . good food. very cool place. i go at least 2 times a year and always see diff. stuff. they also put on 2 fantastic cruises twice a year.

Thought I would get in here and post our family's experience of last month. I and several of my children and grandchildren drove up to Chattanooga from South of Atlanta and visited Honest Charley Speed Shop and went on the Coker Tire tour. It was great fun for the whole family. The children were given special attention by the tour guide who is completely involved and excited about the whole place. Just as we were to begin the tour, Corky Coker came through the showroom and I greeted him. He took the time to talk to us all and posed for pictures with the family. He's a funny guy and he joked and even stuck out his tongue in one of our pictures. Someone pulled my daughters hair as we were posing and he said it was him. Great experience viewing all the collection of cars and motorcycles in the Coker museum. Next door at Honest Charley's Speed Shop, we again were given personal attention by the staff and I want to personally thank Mike, an employee for his help. I was there a month before at the Chattanooga World of Wheels and met him. At that time, he took his time away from the sales desk and gave us a special, but fast tour of the museum and the cars that are to be in the new series "Barn Find"on A&E soon. That trip was the factor that made us decide to go back with as much of the family as we could get together. A great trip for family or just adults. They are having their Cruise In this April, not sure of the date. They block off the street and have hundreds of cars, music, food, etc. We're going for sure and Corky said he will be present. Keep in mind when planning, the tours of the Coker Museum are at 10am and 2pm. If those times don't work for you, you can still get into the showroom where there are a few tires and lot of wheels on the walls in Coker Tire and the Speed Shop is fun to look through too. Check the websites for open times, etc. Have fun! We did.
Good. What was cool was it seemed like they were just as excited as we were having us there. You might also wanna check out he Terminal Brewhouse - it's only a few blocks away... Great food and there own micro- brewed beers.
I went in and asked a question about a 32 Brooksville Firewall bracket and was taken to the shop and to the tour area to look at examples. I didn't buy the body rom them and that didn't matter. they have always been very helpful and I highly recommend the stop.
Stop at the tow truck museum while your at it. Very intesting also. Ruby Falls is interesting if your into nature too.
I second the International Towing and Recovery Museum as a great place to go... just a short jump from Honest Charley Speedshop. Again, great for kids since there is a small wrecker there the kids can control the boom and lights in. It is a converted golf cart. The tow trucks are amazing, from the worlds largest mechanical truck to trucks converted from cars in the early years. Beautiful stuff to see.
I wanted to make sure they were having tours Fri. so I jumped on their website and it wouldn't let me select Fridays date so I sent an e-mail and with in 10 min. I had a very nice response telling me they were having an issue with the scheduling system but that they would be having tours on Fri. at 10 and 2 as many have said so my wife and I will be there at 10 with bells on! Now if I can convince her to turn loose of that credit card while we're there!
Anyone know the hours of the museum. I'm on a tight schedule and would like to stop tomorrow morning Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
It is mentioned several times in the above posts as 10 and 2 oclock tours of the museum, so I am going with that. It is a private collection and normally only shown on these tours. Just go to the Coker Tire office and sign in for the tour about 15 minutes in advance. Its worth the visit.
Thanks. Didnt mean to ruffle you up I was under the impression that the museum was Charlie's and the Coker tour was for the tire shop. Thanks got clearing it up Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
