History 40s/50s El Mirage Dry Lake & Bonneville pics

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Jimmy B, Feb 28, 2013.

  1. So anyway I bought some more vintage dry lake and Bonneville photos. I thought I would share.

    I will caption these tomorrow.

I apologise for my watermark but after other Bonneville pics I own started appearing on ebay all future pics are thus marked.

  2. The crazy thing is these images came from Colorado, I believe the photographer that captured these images is the same person who took the Bonneville photos I posted a couple years back.

I do believe this is the Peterson & Sinclair Dodge roadster with flathead Merc. This roadster was previously run by Ak Miller with a flathead Cad V8.

1952 Vic Hubbard Merc V8 powered Crosley. January 1953 Hot Rod cover car.

Ak Miller's "Miller's Missile" 1952. Ak Miller & Nellie Taylor ran in 4 modified roadster classes and placed 1st in class A, B, D. They placed 3rd in class C MR.

Stecker-Fugatt T modified roadster directly behind started life as the Carrillo/Betz roadster and is now owned by Jim Lattin. Behind the Stecker-Fugatt T is Stecker's full fendered '32 roadster which earned 2nd in B Fendered Roadster class.

Great stuff! I totally agree about your watermark protection. What can you tell us about the car with the twin Riley carbs? Bob

Thanks for sharing those Jimmy. Even all the cars in the background are of interest now e.g. the zebra striped push truck plus all the spectators cars.

Thanks for sharing Jimmy ! If you have any pics of Taylor & Ryan, Ak & Taylor etc., PM me please. I bought Taylor engine rebuilding 3 1/2 years ago and have some history and i would like to add to it !

  30. Ok a new lot of images

1949. Albert Barnes, Albata club. 1929 A roadster. '37 Ford flathead with Cummings OHV heads. One of the nicest hot rods of the late 40s. Check the engine turned firewall. This had a lot of custom mods like filled & molded cowl custom split boat style windscreen. 10 Stewart Warner gauges in modified '32 dash. Rear of the roadster the body swage lines running down the side of the trunk were shrunk out and corners rounded. '37 Studebaker front suspension. Later on car was rebuilt by Jim Hinds the Studebaker front end was removed in favour of a '36 axle and split '41 wishbone and '41 spring. Car was featured in the March '57 Hot Rod and was on the the cover of the same issue.

    1949. Arthur Tremaine A roadster. 125.19mph

I do believe this is Jack Calori's '36 coupe
