Hot Rods 401 Nailhead 6 deuces - good on the street? HELP!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HotRod28AR, Mar 8, 2013.

  1. So I'm running a '66 401 Buick in my '57 Chevy, it's stock with fenderwell headers, and a Offy dual quad setup with Edelbrock 500's. Problem is I spoke with a couple Buick guys and I'm loosing literally 50hp with the Offy intake so that has to go. The Edelbrock is stupid rare, and the factory intakes are tough to find. Eelco's service seems questionable. A single 4bbl is reliable, but boring. This leaves the Weiand 6x2 Drag Star repro from Russ Martin. I would run 6 Stromberg 97's with straight ball bearing linkage. Anyone out there have good luck with getting a lot of use out of a 6 deuce setup? I drive this car everywhere and don't want something that is unreliable. There aren't many options for the Nailhead!

  2. have you looked for a Edelbrock B262? i thought that they were going to reproduce them

  3. I don't think they ever got around to it. Guys are selling originals for $800 when they do come up. This is a dilemma...

DAMN. I think I will run the single 4 barrel on my 401 for awhile until my lot in life comes in. Good luck with yours.

Ever had to play with six OLD Stromberg 97's? They can be a real pain to get rebuilt leak free and jetted correctly. If you can afford 6 of the new ones, you can probably afford the manifold also. I would think you would be happier in the long run with your 2X4 setup if you drive it a lot. Probably not the "cool" factor of 6X2 but a lot less trouble and fire hazard. Just my $.02.

  10. I'm worried about the 6 2's being a pain, and the 3x2 is not enough cfm for the 401, they love fuel. I would love to stick with a good dual quad setup, but the Offy is attrocious, I'll see what ****ster has..
