This is my first post and I have been having some problems picture posting, so I hope they come out O.K. Talking to some guys last weekend & the discussion was about cars we used to own, 10 to 20 years ago. Hell some of the guys on the HAMB probably weren't born 20 years ago, but I guess I'm not the only guy nudging 50.
Anyway if they post O.K. 20 years ago the 38 Tudor was our daily driver. 283, glide, nice car. The Model A was being built at the time. Ground up from a pretty rough body, I wish the rat rod thing was going on then, it might have saved me alot of money.302Ford C4, Jag rear. 3" chop, filled roof. Wheels were interesting, they started out as something like 17" original mid 30's Hudson wires, with bent adjustable spokes much like a Kelsey Hayes, but nicer. I had them cut down to 15", with new centres to take a V8 cap.I have never seen another set.
What was everyone else doing 20 years ago?

Being all of 5 twenty years ago, I was building stuff with Legos and driving my Tonka truck around the sandbox:)

LOL oddly enough, my very first car. 'twas a '70 Caddy Eldorado. BIG bitch. fast, well... high top speed anyhow. took it a while to get there but what the hell. 500cid (8.2 liter... first year GM used metric engine numbers), leather guts...power everything. that thing was wild... had a hood big enough that you could play football on it. paid $300 for it when i was 15 and spent about 6 months getting it cleaned up and running decent.

had a lot of gir... er  FUN in the back of that boat. :p

  4. I was drivin' a '69 Mustang fastback. It was pretty rowdy...351 Windsor with a FMX trans. all out of a early 70's Torino. Far from the fastest thing around, but pretty damn fast and lots of fun. I don't have a scanner or I'd post a pic.

In '83 I had a '56 Chevy 210 2-door post with a 350/400 that was a lot of fun, then sold it for a '65 Impala 327/PG, which I then sold for a '66 Buick LeSabre 4-door with A/C, a 350 Wildcat, and plenty of room to screw.

But actually, around this time 20 years ago, I was driving a jeep in Baumholder, Germany and freezing my nuts off.

I had a big block 73 vega and a 68 rs/ss camaro. That is exactly when I got sick of working on cars and bought european sports cars. This was until last year when I got the car building bug again..

in '85 I was so dirt poor I couldn't afford a damned thing. I'd sold the Falcons, the Nov SS, and wrecked the Rambler. I was drivin' a Pinto.

Buildin'? I'd agreed to marry the Peebmonster (I didn't ask - she did) and I had no money for a ring. So - I struck a deal with grandma - put new quarters and door skins on her '71 Nova, and a fresh shot of white for $1500 - enough for a small ring.

Best jing I've ever spent. Thanks, grandma!

I was 14, twenty years ago. I had a schwin beach cruiser. I took all the reflectors off and emblem. Repainted it black. Put a set of pegs up front and a set in the rear so I could ride my bros around and listen to the Circle Jerks(favorite band when I was in 9th grade)...Man getting old f-ing sucks.:(

1956 Chevy post. Gasser with all chrome removed but all the holes still there. Tilt front end, 2 seats and carpet, no door panels or headliner. 427/T400 w 388 gears. Rear bumper only.

Everyweekend I drove home to Odessa from Lubock and back on Sunday night. I could make Odessa to Brownfield, gas up and then into Lubock. The other way was Lubock to Andrews, then into Odessa. For those not from around hear thats roughly a hundred miles between gas ups.

The only gauge was a tach. One night I left Odessa and the temp was in the high 40s so I just had a jean jacket on. When I rolled into Lubbock the bank sign said 1. Holy crap I thought I was going to just flat freeze to death!

Good times! But you know it sounds like things haven't really changed much!

Well, let's see-I think I was still driving my '34 Ford roadster. Yep, pretty sure although at my age memory is one of the first things to go! We had a '71 Cutlass convert as a, more or less, everyday car. I also had a '79 Little Red Express which was wicked FAST but, the biggest pile of crap. It was no wonder that Chrysler nearly went under. And, last but not least, I had my '40 Ford tudor, but maybe this one didn't count as it hasn't moved in 30 years. I have owned it since '61. It has a place of honor in my garage. Maybe next year if I can stop working on "filler" cars that I get in the interim! Well, I hope so.

21 years ago this month, I sold my VW Beetle and became the second owner of a '63 Impala 2 door hardtop with a 327 4bbl and a power glide. I still drive that car today (229,000 miles on the original, untouched engine), along with a few others.
