The gen mounted P/S pump was used thru 1957, I believe, after which the seperate pump mount was used. As I recall, there was just one style that was used for generator mounting. 4TTRUK
1947 thru 1961. 1947 thru 1954 and then 1955 thru 1961 are the groups that will interchange, however there are some differences in the reservoir indentations and neck heights between some of the various years.
It's like they say, change your own oil and no one calls you a mechanic, but give head just one time..........................
hell; you should see how real screwups get handled! it's not like you posted a Yugo on 22's and asked how to do a bowling ball paint job. and i've actually only seen one of those setups ONCE in my life. i think it was in a '59 or '60 Chevy (i wasn't much on Chevies then and wasn't really paying that much attention) and the car had every option you could think of, A/C, power steering and brakes, lots of chrome under the hood, and this was all loaded on top of a 4v 283.... too bad the car itself was a ****box so full of rust that touching it should have required a tet**** shot! that's how cars end up when they're out here on the coast too long.
The last year the pump ran off the back of the generator was '59, according to these guys: http://www.chevyps.com/kits.html
funny how a place full of "experts" can come up with so many different answers to the same questions.
I have a 1958 Chevy Impala Convt. With the power steering pump mounted on the the generator. They do use them on forklifts, But most rotate counter clockwise so beware if you try to use one. Also as said in another post they do have different reservoirs and some have different size pulley 55-61 12 volt earlier are 6 volt.
The real problem with this setup was a slipping fanbelt caused the steering wheel to oscillate. There was another rare setup that had the mechanical tach driven off the generator shaft before GM put it on the distributor.
